fleshgait is a Fictional/Folklore creature that originated as the story of a skinwalkers but more people are telling and creating stories of the creature. The creature's history and story start to change to the point where it doesn’t resemble the original skinwalkers anymore so people on the internet give the name for the creature called ‘’ Fleshgait’’ which can be translated into skinwalkers

Story of Fleshgait encounter mostly features hiker or people in the wood getting stalked and their friend or other human start to act weird as this creature steals the victim's skin and try to mimic the person they killed and try to deception the other human and kill them

Etymology edit

People share stories about skinwalkers since early 2000-2010 and as it become popularized the story change from traditional Navajo witch into a monster and that cause people to gave the name fleshgait separating it from original creature around 2016 and it has become known as fleshgait ever since..[1]

Creature edit

Apperance edit

Fleshgait appearance known to be a terrifying disproportionate creature that is very tall thin and pale humanoid with arms that go past their knee they usually hunch over and are also known to be pretty fast.

Behavior edit

According to the record of most of the fleshgait encounters, the creature seems to lure humans by mimicking the voice into them going to check the sound alone, and then the creature kills and steals human skin. Once they steal it they can perfectly mimic the victim's voice but can only say a few words and they will use the voice to deceive the friend of the victim and kill them one by one[2].

When people find out that fleshgait is not their friend most of the time fleshgait will escape but sometimes it will try to kill humans 1 by 1. Also when humans get out of wood even only a few meters away it will stop hunting for some reason we don’t know.

Even Though It can perfectly mimic human voice due to its limited vocabulary, it can't make its own sentence and can only mimic the victim's sentence when still alive so the other humans can realize that Fleshgait is not their friend and escape.

Popularity edit

In 2005 the time when the book called ‘’ Hunt for the Skinwalker by Kelleher, Colm A[3]’’ been publicized the skinwalker immediately became known throughout America after that, from 2013 to 2015 people started writing stories about their own encounters with the skinwalker mostly on image boards giving more popularity to the skinwalker and then around 2016 people start to change the name from skinwalker to flesh gait because the story becomes way to different from the original skinwalker and now Fleshgait also become well known as well but sometimes people still confuse and call Fleshgait skinwalker

With the popularity gained there people created many videos about the creature and even made a videogame called fleshgait[4]. there also a book that reference fleshgait called ''Disembodied Voices: True Accounts of Hidden Beings[5]''

Folklore edit

Fleshgait is first described as a skinwalker (Navajo: Yee Naaldlooshii)[6] before it was changed into Fleshgait it is also heavily related to the native skinwalker and shares many concepts and similarity

In Navajo culture, a skinwalker is a harmful witch who has the ability to transform into an animal after they do the taboo ritual of killing their own family.

Navajo witches including skinwalkers represent the antithesis of Navajo culture. These witches are seen as evil performing harmful rituals and magic and these people are seen as the corrupt ones.

While there is a similarity between Skinwalker and Fleshgait, Fleshgait is known to be just a non-human creature that hunts people for food unlike the Skinwalker that use magic both of their similarity is a mimicking part but Fleshgait mimics human instead of animal[7]
