Why is Cannabis Illegal?
editCannabis is also known as hemp, it has been used for centuries , for a lot of reasons. Cannabis seeds are also one of the most nutritious sources of food. Cannabis had been used in the past as a medicine and relieves a lot of people from suffering today. Cannabis is an important and very useful crop in different countries and for a variety of uses.
Cannabis was ruled out by the western world because people suffered from 'chronic hashism' and insanity due to smoking cannabis. Cannabis became mis-classified as a narotic drug. There were also serious obstacles to the huge profits which could be made from these synthetic alternatives to cannabis products-chemicals,fossil fuels,and chemicals for cotton and wood pulp.
According to studies and reports most governments still classify cannabis as harmful and most of the world governments refuse to re-legalise cannabis. Cannabis has been declared as 'remarably safe', by the BMA and Prof. Lester Grinspoon of that it is used as medicine,although the use of cannabis has severe side effects so does any other drug such as alcohol and sigarettes if abused.
How cannabis affect the lives of people
Most of the companies make huge amountas of money by the production of the alternatives of cannabis and one of the real reasons why it is still prohibited is because of profit making. The prohibitation of cannabis and the widespread use of the synthetic alternatives is responsible for many of the problem's we are faced with today, including drug abuse,alienation of huge sections of populations,over-crowding of prisons,pollution,unempolyment and increased suffering. This situation has resulted in the prosecution of many of the people around the world,some of whom are even now serving life sentences and longer for small amounts of cannabis,often solely for medical use.
MEDICAL JOURNAL'THE LANCET',Nov.,1995 said "the smoking of cannabis,even long term, is not harmful to health"
