EMPLOYER DISCLOSURE

edit

I am being paid through Dartmouth College's Lombard Fellowship[1] to intern with the Souls Grown Deep Foundation. In an effort to diversify and expand online documentation of African-American artists from the North American southeast, I will be creating and editing articles of notable artists. I am paid to edit and create these articles through the Lombard post-graduate Fellowship.

NATURE OF CONTRIBUTIONS

edit

The nature of my contributions to wikipedia is three-fold. First, it is to elevate already existing artists' biographies to include more than their accolades. Second, it is to incorporate more inclusive and less insidious language into their Wikipedia pages. For instance, the terms "self-taught" or "outsider artist" are used either inaccurately, because the artists were actually formally taught their skills by other people, or to reinstate classist, and often times racist, hierarchy of the art world by claiming that some people are "inside" this world and others are "outside." There are more appropriate ways to describe these artist. Third, it is to create holistic pages, including sections for accolades, photos, biographies, and artistic practices for African American artists from the North American South who do not already have existing pages.
