Odious is an Egyptian black metal band, was founded in 1998 in Alexandria - Egypt, after Sherief Askar(Founder/Song writer/Guitarist) Bassem Fakhri (Vocals and Synths) and Rami Magdi (Drums), put their way to create a new metal feeling with oriental instruments. Shortly, Ramzi Mayas (Bass) and Mohamed Hassan (Lead Guitar) were added to this line-up. But the bassist left the band for some personal reasons. Then Alfi Hayati has joined this line up. Recently in 2005, Mohamed Lameen has finalized this line-up as a rhythm guitarist

Odious first strated out playing Oriental Doom Metal until the year 2003 when the founder Sherief Askar decides to leave due to not getting the proper credits for the music he wrote.The band has created a new sub-genre of black metal music,which is Oriental Black Metal,that fuses the agression of black metal music with oriental elements ,to make a new type of metal music which combines between oriental cultures and western cultures.

In 1997 Sherief Askar a local musician & artist sets foot to explore newer horizons and hence contacts Rami Magdy to play drums. He then takes the lead and stars searching for a keyboard player within the college community. He actually does come across a very simple guy that claimed he didn't have what it takes to take on a role as a keyboardist, quoting the all famous statement " Im not a keyboard player & I don't even have my own keyboard" Nevertheless Sherief Askar decides to take him on board and teach him the fundamentals of the keyboards. By the year 1998 Sherief Askar has been able to write 3 full tracks alongside with Rami Magdi supporting the issues of recording and webdesign. They release a demo by the name "Summoned By Night" in the genre of Doom Metal only adding slight Oriental touches with the use of the keyboardist Basem Fakhri. Due to personal reasons Askar flew out to the United States for a few years only to return and discover that the band had moved on with giving the band a name and writing lyrics that were of no meaning! As the founder of this band he totally refused the new direction the remaining members were forcing their way into 'Black Metal', and threatened to break off the entire project just until Rami Magdy AKA Rami Mahrous & Basem Fakhri decided to rip off the music and claim theirs!! They shortly put out another demo with the same name 'Summoned By Night' AGAIN ! and to complete the rip off act deleted ALL sources,prints,websites & zines with Askar's name on. Askar later confronted them only to receive complete 'we don't know anything!' He currently pursues another band that does the same direction he started out 'Oriental Metal' which will probably be released in the second half of 2011. Odious band still play until this very day only denying that Sherief Askar was the founder and main lead for this band to achieve any recognition locally.


In 2000 the band recorded an - unreleased - demo and it was oriental doom metal with black metal influences. After that, the band decided to unleash their energy by changing their style into pure oriental black metal. Their second release, a mini-cd entitled Summoned by Night was self- released in 2003 and it was widely distributed in Egypt. The demo received great reviews and more than respectful feedback which helped in making a huge fan base in Egypt.
