History
Batala in New York City was started in 2012 by Stacy Kovacs. After seeing Batala Washington in parades in New York City she inquired about starting a branch of Batala in New York City. She learned that starting a band was simple, and after she had spoken with Giba and getting his approval, she traveled to Salvador de Bahia [Salvador de Bahia] to march with Batala and Cortejo Afro.
