Dalian Maple Leaf International School (The High School in Jinshitan, Dalian)

Dalian Maple Leaf International School is an educational system in Dalian, Liaoning Province, China, from pre-school to high school. It is affiliated to the educational system of British Columbia, Canada. It was founded by Mr. Sherman Jen, the CEO and Chairman of Maple Leaf Education System, in 1995. Blending the western educational model with traditional Chinese educational model, the school's aim is to prepare students to face diverse challenges in the cosmopolitan society.

  • 1995 The first Maple Leaf International School was opened in Jinshitan, Dalian by the funder and CEO Mr. Sherman Jen, with 14 high school students enrolled.
  • 1998 Dalian Maple Leaf International School was certified as British Columbia’s first Offshore School program.
  • 1999 The first graduates were admitted by colleges and universities from the wolrd.
  • 2001 The first Maple Leaf Elementary School and the first Maple Leaf Foreign Nationals School were opened in Dalian.
  • 2003 Maple Leaf Educational Systems Main Office and the first middle school campus were opened in Dalian.
  • 2004 The first Maple Leaf Pre-school was opened.
  • 2007 Two new campus were opened in Wuhan, Hubei Province.
  • 2008 Tianjin Maple Leaf International School was opened.
  • 2009 Chongqing Maple Leaf International School was opened. Dalian campus was separated to boys’ and girls’ campuses.
  • 2010 Middle School and the Maple Leaf Headquarters were moved to High School Girls’ Campus in Jinshitan, Dalian.
  • 2011 Zhenjiang Maple Leaf International School was opened.
  • 2012 Three more campuses were opened in Ordos, Luoyang, and Shanghai.

Programs in High School edit

Maple Leaf International High School offers the same curriculum as high schools in British Columbia, Canada. Students will complete both a Chinese high school diploma, and a Canadian high school diploma. In Grade 10, students are divided into different classes based on their English levels. There are A class(four English courses+one Chinese course), B class(three English courses+one English skill course+one Chinese course), and C class(two English courses+two English skill courses+one Chinese course). Students need at least 80 credits to graduate which means C class students will graduate in four years. In Grade 11, students can choose different pathways based on their interests. There are seven pathways provided: Applied Art, Health Science, Applied Science, Engineering, Business, Computer Science, and Social Science. Each pathway has its required courses.[3]
