I thought I might kick things off with an introduction, very much like the one I just wrote on your talk page. As you may very well realize, this is Wikipedia, and I am an editor. So as not to patronize you too greatly, I was wondering what you'd like to know. -Mysekurity 02:22, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

Seconding what is above, what do you expect to be coached on, why did you ask for admin coaching? Prodego talk 20:55, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

First of all, I would like to say thanks to both of you. Really sorry for the delay. I have been editing wikipedia for a year today (amazing coincidence!) and have loved most of it. I take part on two or three projects but also like hitting the random button now and then to edit a complete different article.

Personally, I am not sure if I am ready to be an admin yet but would like to in the future. I have been doing RC patrols for months but am fully aware that there is more to be an admin than just reverting and blocking vandals, which I think is a very common misconception.

I have noticed several areas where there are a lot to do and most of the load is taken by a few overworked admins: WP:PAIN, WP:RFPP (many more actors now thankfully), WP:3RR (good old William M. Connolley!), WP:RFCU (blessed Essjay ;o)) and more mundane things such as implementing requested page moves.

I will list my experience below and you can advice me on anything I'm missing:

  1. WP:RC Patrol, mainly recent IP edits
  2. Reports to WP:AN/I and WP:AIAV
  3. Use of WP:RfC in order to solve various disputes by third parties, with a diverse degree of success
  4. WP:RQM
  5. Some other I possibly forgot about it right now

Possible weak points/lack of experience:

  1. Deletion policy and procedure (though I have marked articles as db|reason a few times, mainly incorrectly named images that cannot be moved)
  2. Wikipedia:Request for arbitration (I am currently taking part on one after being invited to do so, but am personally uneasy about it though I understand that it was the only thing left to do)
  3. Wikipedia:Abuse reports

PS: I will update this tomorrow. I am going offline now. Thanks again. E Asterion u talking to me? 22:02, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

Well at WP:RFCU there is not much you can do, as I assume you know. The most important aspect of being an admin is how you would handle a dispute or a personl attack. Just because you are an admin does not mean you need to know how everything works, just so long as you know the relevent rules before you do anything. You will need to know the deletion policy though. Why don't you take a look at WP:ARL, and study it. Maybe I will give you a test on it. Prodego talk 12:31, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
Yes, I know about RFCU. It was just an example to make my point (of all those, the WP:RQM is the one with the longer backlog most of the times). I will give the reading list a go. Cheers, E Asterion u talking to me? 13:07, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

You also might wanna check out Wikipedia:Editor review before going for adminship. I think it might be a good idea if anything... and shows that you're not just power hungry or something. -Mysekurity 20:30, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

WOW! I didn't know there was such a thing. It sounds great. I will try it soon (I need to catch up with some automobile and art articles from before my last holiday). Thanks, E Asterion u talking to me? 20:36, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
By the way, this is an incomplete list of articles I have worked on User:Asterion/Significant_edits that you may want to check. Some of these are there as a to-do reminder (i.e. I have added new images but not had the chance of working on the text yet). I intend to carry on working on Wikipedia:WikiProject Automobiles and local geography articles for Lincolnshire and Andalusia. I also take photos quite often (at the moment, I have a request list to work from). Cheers, E Asterion u talking to me? 20:49, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
One of my articles was featured as a Did you know? entry in the front page not long ago (See Glanford Power Station. E Asterion u talking to me? 20:51, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
