Hey! My name is Arglin. Welcome to my little corner of the Wiki world, I guess.

Quick About Me

edit

I'm a content creator who has begun investing a lot of my time into learning about mechanisms; amateur kinematician / mechanical dynamicist. Always excited to meet other mechanical engineers!

Animations

edit
Cognate Linkages:
Linkages which are dimensionally dissimilar, but produce the same output path.
Bricard Inversor:
A linkage which produces perfectly straight line motion.

I started helping out in the Straight line mechanism article and the sub-articles associated with it, primarily adding new linkages that were not previously added. I eventually standardized the style of almost all the linkages on the page (as of April 2022).

Since then I've been jumping around different mechanical articles in hopes of providing clearer animations.

For animations that I have made, you can check out my Wikimedia Commons page!

GeoGebra

edit

All my work is made using GeoGebra! If you want to see what I am working on, you can check out my page here: [Redirect to GeoGebra Userpage]

Article Revisions and Translations

edit

Despite not having a degree in mechanical engineering, I've also made major revisions to several mechanical articles which I believed were heavily out of date or underserved.

Although I am only capable of speaking English with a hint of Cantonese, I've been receiving help from several people to translate articles.

Thank you to the following people for helping out in translations!

  • cookiebox678 – Translations for German
  • Crian05 – Translations for German
  • Falcon (Canadian Fruit Basket) – Translations for Indonesian
  • Palfly Kampling – Translations for German
  • Simon Kampling – Translations for German

Inventions

edit

I've invented a variety of different mechanisms so far. The following animations were created with the wonderful help of Nguyen Duc Thang, a retired mechanical engineer from Vietnam.

Animation Description
Kumara-Kampling Inversor Linkage

An 8-bar linkage which produces perfect straight line motion.
Linkage for 270 Deg. Oscillation 1

A 10-bar linkage which makes an link that oscillating 270 degrees from a crank using a Peaucellier-Lipkin inversor.
Pick and Place Mechanism 1

An 11-bar linkage which performs pick and place motion given a rotating crank input.
Stratzenblitz-Arglin Linkage for Reversing Motion

A linkage which converts regular rotational motion to opposite regular rotational motion.
Drawing Lemiscate with Smooth Motion

A 5-bar solution to drawing a lemniscate more smoothly.
Left: Lemniscate being drawn irregularly by a conventional 4-bar contraparallelogram linkage
Right: My 5-bar variant.
Bracing for Contraparallelogram Linkage

A solution to bracing a contraparallelogram's dead positions using three additional links.
Animation Description
Robert's Table Linkage

A 6-bar cognate of the Roberts linkage which produces a rectlinear bar.
Linkage for 270 Deg. Oscillation 2

An 8-bar linkage which makes an link that oscillating 270 degrees from a crank using a Hart inversor.
Pick and Place Mechanism 2

A 9-bar linkage which performs pick and place motion given a rotating crank input.
Two-dwell Rocker Linkage

A linkage for producing a dwell in two positions from a regularly rotating crank input.
This can stack as much as desired; the one shown in the animation uses three iterations.
Linkage for drawing Lemniscate

A method of drawing a lemniscate which does not have dead positions unlike most conventional methods.
