Ambassador Mohammed Jameel is not just an accidental politician but was a bureaucrat who combined administrative skills and politicking since the early part of his career. The influence of his career as he walks down the corridors of power invariably made him a pragmatic and venerable politician of a distinctive and inestimable value. He is not only widely acknowledged to be easy going but adjudged to be a personality with a magnetic character and capacity to generate friends and cream of admirers at the slightest acquaintance
Early life and education edit
Born in 1957 to the families of Alhaji Zubeir Abubakar and Fadimatu Hamidu Lale in Yola town of Yola North Local Government of Adamawa State, Ambassador Jameel as he is fondly called got enrolled into Mustapha primary School, Yola in 1963 and later completed his primary education at Central Primary School, Jimeta in 1971. He later sought admission into Comprehensive Secondary School, Numan where he obtained his secondary education in 1977. As a promising young man with great future and insatiable desire for educational attainment, he had to enroll for university education where he obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in comparative language studies at King Abdulaziz University, Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. As part of efforts to develop his administrative skills in the course of his career, he was moved to obtain certificates from administrative staff college, Badagry, Lagos, Common Wealth Diplomats foundation, Surrey, United Kingdom, Foreign Service Academy, Islamabad, Pakistan and International relations in the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, United Kingdom.

His diplomatic career begun in the Minister of Foreign Affairs (Nigeria) after the completion of his National Youth Service in the Directorate of State Protocol office of the President, Dodan Barracks, Lagos. His career which spans over 34 years started with his deployment to the Presidency as a Protocol Officer, Senior Protocol Officer and Principal Protocol Officer respectively. Within that period he had also served as the protocol liaison officer of the then head of state, General Muhammadu Buhari. In recognition of his towering credentials and excellence, he was given a national assignment to serve in Saudi Arabia with the former Chief of Staff, Supreme Headquarters, General Tunde Idiagbon, when the government of General Buhari was toppled. On his return, he was again deployed to the office of the Military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, as the protocol liaison officer. His years of service were not only punctuated with stability and success but it accorded him the opportunity to learn to strike a balance between public life and human relations. His Principals who could not resist the temptation of choosing him for the best available jobs, in 1992 posted him as the first Secretary/Head of Chancery in the Nigerian Embassy in Algiers, the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria. After serving there for one year, he was cross-posted to the Nigerian Embassy in Rabat, the Kingdom of Morocco, where he also served as Counsellor, Head of Chancery for 6 years. On the completion of his duty tour in Rabat, he returned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja, and was deployed as a Senior Counsellor in the Legal and Treaties Division. The Ambassador was later redeployed to the Human Resources Department, Posting Division as Minister Counsellor. In the year 2003, he was posted to the Nigerian High Commission London, United Kingdom, where he served as Minister Counsellor in the Trade and Investment Section in charge of Trade and Investment desk between Nigeria and the United Kingdom for a period of one year. In 2007, Ambassador Abubakar-Waziri was posted back to Nigeria and deployed to the Human Resources Department in Abuja, as the Head of Staff, Welfare and Passages. On his promotion to the rank of Assistant Director, the Ambassador was deployed to the office of the Honourable Minister of State for Foreign Affairs. While still in the office of the Minister, he was nominated and appointed Commissioner representing the Ministry on the Board of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria by the late President, Umaru Musa Yar'Adua. He received a further promotion to the rank of Deputy Director, Foreign Affairs in 2009. Ambassador Abubakar-Waziri was posted, to the office of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as a Special Assistant, Administration in 2009, a position he held until 2010 when the Vice President became the Acting President. In 2011, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan won the election to the Office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and appointed the Ambassador as the Presidential Liaison officer, Protocol. He served in that capacity for two years and was later promoted as Director. Dr. Jonathan conferred Ambassadorial appointment on him and made him the State Chief of Protocol of the Federation. He served in that capacity until the defeat of the ruling party during the 2015 election. Ambassador Abubakar-Waziri returned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as Director, Global Institution, until his retirement after reaching the pinnacle of his career and a meritorious service to the nation in June 2017.
The Ambassador speaks multiple languages which include; Arabic, Fulfulde, Hausa and passable French. He is very innovative and resourceful. His other skills include translation and interpretation of Arabic, excellent leadership skills, good communication skills, conflict resolution and Negotiations. The Ambassador has represented the Country in several international organizations, summits, conferences, seminars and other fora. His interests include International Relations and Current affairs, reading, swimming, squash and public speaking. Because of his overwhelming societal influence and pedigree, he could not escape the eagle eye of the traditional institution. This attracted him the honour to be conferred with the prestigious title of Mutawalli of Adamawa by His Royal Highness, Dr. Barkindo Aliyu Mustapha, the Lamido of Adamawa and Grand Patron of Tabbital Pulaaku International, in recognition of his service to his community and the Nation.
