History

edit

OpenITG was created as a simulator of the In The Groove series of video games. It was created after the aquisition of ITG by Konami.[3]

Editions

edit

Arcade and Home versions of the game have been created and released.

Home

edit

The home version of OpenITG is similar to Stepmania, complete with an in-game stepfile editor, .png and .jpg image support, same theme system, same background movie support, and .mp3 and .ogg music file support.

Arcade

edit

The arcade verion of OpenITG is similar to the home version. The only difference is additional "arcade libraries" are installed and used on Arcade Cabnets otherwise known as "AC"s.

Gameplay

edit

OpenITG ultilizes similar gameplay mechanics from the ITG Series (In The Groove) and the DDR Series (Dance Dance Revolution).

Core gameplay invloves the player to step his/her feet against panels to a pattern matching to the general rhythm or beat of a song. Like both ITG and DDR, there are 4 arrows for the user to step on. On standard gameplay the non-stationary arrows scroll from the bottom to top of the screen at varying speeds being decided by the general speed of the song. The player must step or jump on the corresponding panel once the non-stationary arrows overlap the stationary arrows. If the corresponding arrow is pressed when the non-stationary arrow is completely overlapping the stationary arrows, the player gets a higher and more accurate score than if he/she stepped when the non-stationary arrow was slightly off.
