Lil Wayne (born Dwayne Michael Carter Jr.) had been rapping since age 11[1] and joined the rap group Hot Boys in 1997, when he was only 15. Hot Boys debuted in 1997 with Get It How U Live! and followed up with Guerrilla Warfare in 1999 and Let 'Em Burn in 2003. His solo debut album Tha Block is Hot was released in 1999 and went double platinum.[2] His follow-ups, Lights Out (2000) and 500 Degreez (2002) were mild successes; he became more prominent in 2004 with Tha Carter and its single "Go DJ" and his guest performance on the single "Soldier" by Destiny's Child. Tha Carter II followed in 2005; in 2006 and 2007 Wayne focused on guest spots and recording freestyles for mixtapes. In 2008, Tha Carter III was released, and Wayne scored a number-one hit in 2008 with "Lollipop" (with Static Major) and won a Grammy Award for Best Rap Solo Performance for the single "A Milli", Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance By A Duo Or Group for his appearance in T.I.'s single "Swagga Like Us", and Grammy Award for Best Rap Song for "Lollipop". Tha Carter III won the award for Best Rap Album.[3]

T-Pain (born Faheem Rasheed Najm) was a rapper in the group Nappy Headz before beginning his solo career in 2005 with his album Rappa Ternt Sanga, which relied heavily on vocoder effects. That album spawned two hit singles, "I'm Sprung" and "I'm N Luv (Wit a Stripper)". He has appeared on many other rap and R&B singles. Epiphany followed in 2007 with the singles "Buy U a Drank (Shawty Snappin')" with Yung Joc and "Bartender" with Akon.

T-Pain and Lil Wayne had collaborated several times prior to establishing T-Wayne formally. In 2006, T-Pain appeared on the single "Know What I'm Doin'" from Like Father, Like Son, the collaboration album of Birdman and Lil Wayne. "Know What I'm Doin'" reached #58 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and #22 on the Hot Rap Tracks chart. Both artists released albums in 2008: Lil Wayne Tha Carter III, and T-Pain Thr33 Ringz. T-Pain appeared on Wayne's single "Got Money", which peaked at #10 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #2 on the Hot Rap Tracks; Wayne made a guest performance on Pain's "Can't Believe It", which made it to #7 on the Hot 100 and #2 on the R&B chart.

History edit

In June 2008, Lil Wayne and T-Pain began planning to create a supergroup comprised of themselves.[4] Production began in the next month.[5] In August, T-Pain announced plans to create a mixtape, tentatively titled T-Wayne: The Project.[6] A mixtape titled The T-Wayne Show reached #152 on the Billboard 200 chart in January 2009;[7] the mixtape was released in September 2008.[8]

The self-titled debut album of T-Wayne is scheduled to be released sometime in 2009. In a Billboard magazine report, T-Pain asserted that the album would have influence from his previous collaboration with Wayne, "Got Money".[9] Production duo Play N Skillz offered production for the album in February 2009.[10]. T-pain recentley stated in an interview that the release of the album would be put on hold due to the prison sentence of lil wayne, and would be instead released in 2011 when he is released.
