It was a Queensland Government department responsible for assistance to local government; and promotion of participation in sport and recreational activities. On 26 March 2009, under Administrative Arrangements Order (No. 1) 2009, the Department of Local Government, Sport and Recreation was abolished, its sport and recreation functions transferred to the Department of Communities, and other functions to the Department of Infrastructure and Planning.

Establishment

On 26 February 2004, under the Administrative Arrangements Amendment Order (No.2) 2004, and the Public Service Departmental Arrangement Notice (No.2) 2004, the Department of Local Government and Planning was renamed the Department of Local Government, Planning, Sport and Recreation. On 13 September 2007, under the Administrative Arrangements Oder (No. 2) 2007 and the Public Service Departmental Arrangements Notice (No. 4) 2007 the Department was renamed the Department of Local Government, Sport and Recreation.[1]

Abolition

On 26 March 2009, under Administrative Arrangements Order (No. 1) 2009, the Department of Local Government, Sport and Recreation was abolished, its sport and recreation functions transferred to the Department of Communities, and other functions to the Department of Infrastructure and Planning.[1]
