This page contains information about my current and past personal projects on Wikipedia. It is mainly historical, mostly containing items up to March 2008.
Navboxes
edit- See /Navboxes.
I have made a number of navboxes, mainly for the various subfields of nanotechnology, to improve article flow and attract more edits to these articles. A complete listing can be found at the link above.

Main article
editWhen I first encountered the Nanotechnology article it had a lot of information but it was very unorganized and was biased more towards societal implications than the hard science. I've been spending a bunch of time lately giving the article a better structure and adding relevant information.
Done:
- Reorganize sections for better structure.
- Add information about current research.
- Copy-edit Fundamental Concepts section.
- Split off a new Implications of nanotechnology article.
- Create Nanomaterials article.
- Clean up external links section, fork to List of nanotechnology organizations.
- Make nanotechnology navbox.
To do:
- Copy-edit introduction, Tools and Techniques and Applications sections.
- Get article to peer review and then good article nom.
Other articles
editIt seems that many of the articles in the nanotechnology category overlap with each other, are too narrow in scope, and are not well-connected to each other. In many cases merging stubs and smaller articles into broader, medium-sized ones would make for a stronger organization of the concepts. In other cases articles are too long and should be forked into multiple articles. I have also been creating and placing a series of navboxes to improve article flow and make the overall organization clearer to the reader.
Articles to consider merging:
- Nanoengineering -> Nanotechnology
- Nanocrystal -> Nanoparticle
- Feature-oriented positioning -> Feature-oriented scanning
- Nanomechatronics -> Nanorobotics
Articles to consider forking or creating:
- Drexler-Smalley debate on molecular nanotechnology
- DNA nanotechnology (done, also see /DNA Nanotechnology)
Stubs to expand:
- Nanotube -> disambiguation for Carbon nanotube, Non-carbon nanotube, DNA nanotube (done)
- Scanning probe lithography -> disambiguation for Dip Pen Nanolithography, Nanoimprint lithography, and perhaps others (done)
- Nanoelectronics -> disambiguation for Nanocircuits, Molecular electronics, perhaps Nanolithography (done)
- Nanostructure -> list for Nanoring, Nanorod, Nanopillar, Nanoshell, etc. (done)
Biomolecular structure
editI am engaging in a massive reorganization of biomolecular structure articles, as proposed at WT:MCB (April 2010). Changes so far:
Moves/merges:
- RNA structure prediction->Nucleic acid structure prediction
- RNA structure probing->Nucleic acid structure determination
- DNA denaturation, Nucleic acid hybridization, Annealing (biology)->Nucleic acid thermodynamics
- Primary structure -> Protein primary structure
- Secondary structure -> Protein secondary structure
- Tertiary structure -> Protein tertiary structure
- Quaternary structure->Protein quaternary structure
- DNA structure -> Nucleic acid secondary structure, Nucleic acid double helix
- DNA structure, Double helix -> Nucleic acid double helix
- RNA tertiary structure -> Nucleic acid tertiary structure
- RNA structure -> Biomolecular structure
New articles:
Science policy
edit- Moved Funding of science to History of science policy
- Moved Research funding to Funding of science
- Moved Military funding of science to History of military science (since moved again to History of military technology)
- Merged Funding body and part of Funding of science to Science policy
- Split/expanded Science policy of the United States
House system at Caltech
editI've also been cleaning up the House System at the California Institute of Technology article which was created from a merge of individual House pages but hasn't gotten much attention since then.
Done:
- Reorganize sections for better structure
- Add information about off-campus housing.
To do:
- Expand the history section including information about architecture.
- Take some (more) photos and upload them.
- Make new article on Caltech-MIT rivalry
Long Island
editMain article
editIronically, the article Long Island was too long - 71kb versus a suggested size of 30-50kb. I split many of the sections of the article into subarticles and created the navbox Template:Long Island to link them.
Articles created:
- History of Long Island
- Economy of Long Island
- Transportation on Long Island
- Politics of Long Island
- Music and Long Island
- List of Long Island recreational facilities
Nassau County Roads
editI worked on a few articles on county routes in Nassau County, New York. Interestingly enough, all the routes are unsigned because the county didn't want to pay to upgrade them to federal standards in the 70's! I didn't even know they existed until recently, hence the articles.
Articles created or expanded:
- List of county routes in Nassau County, New York
- Glen Cove Road
- Old Country Road
- Parkways in New York State
