This page contains information about my current and past personal projects on Wikipedia. It is mainly historical, mostly containing items up to March 2008.

See /Navboxes.

I have made a number of navboxes, mainly for the various subfields of nanotechnology, to improve article flow and attract more edits to these articles. A complete listing can be found at the link above.

Nanotechnology

edit

Main article

edit

When I first encountered the Nanotechnology article it had a lot of information but it was very unorganized and was biased more towards societal implications than the hard science. I've been spending a bunch of time lately giving the article a better structure and adding relevant information.

It seems that many of the articles in the nanotechnology category overlap with each other, are too narrow in scope, and are not well-connected to each other. In many cases merging stubs and smaller articles into broader, medium-sized ones would make for a stronger organization of the concepts. In other cases articles are too long and should be forked into multiple articles. I have also been creating and placing a series of navboxes to improve article flow and make the overall organization clearer to the reader.

I am engaging in a massive reorganization of biomolecular structure articles, as proposed at WT:MCB (April 2010). Changes so far:

House system at Caltech

Ricketts Hovse courtyard in 2008

I've also been cleaning up the House System at the California Institute of Technology article which was created from a merge of individual House pages but hasn't gotten much attention since then.

Done:

To do:

  • Expand the history section including information about architecture.
  • Take some (more) photos and upload them.
  • Make new article on Caltech-MIT rivalry

Long Island

edit

Main article

edit

Ironically, the article Long Island was too long - 71kb versus a suggested size of 30-50kb. I split many of the sections of the article into subarticles and created the navbox Template:Long Island to link them.

Nassau County Roads

edit

I worked on a few articles on county routes in Nassau County, New York. Interestingly enough, all the routes are unsigned because the county didn't want to pay to upgrade them to federal standards in the 70's! I didn't even know they existed until recently, hence the articles.
