FIGURAMA was founded in 2015 - first as a 3D scanning studio. The studio was built, to assist with production of digital characters for video games, animation and interactive apps. One of the founders, Andrej Grek, was working on these at the time. It’s difficult to build these, because of a lot of custom code has to be developed. This’s been limiting the ability to tell all the stories that Andrej had on paper. As he’s been experimenting and thinking of different ways of using the 3D scanned characters, he and his team discovered a unique way to tell stories in 3D. They set out on a journey to build the prototype, and after a few months of coding and 3D modeling, they had a working version of a new storytelling product. In 2017, the 3D Comics Platform was born.

Andrej’s team is creating a universal app called FIGURAMA, which lets you access digital 3D comics and stories all in one place. In a 3D comic, unlike in a traditional comic, a reader doesn’t view a 2D page, but explores a whole 3D environment to understand the story. The FIGURAMA team realized, that the technology to create stories in 3D, just as easily as on paper was missing. A 2D illustrator needs to just pick a pen and after a few strokes, another person can view the sketch and appreciate the art instantly. To build digital story products such as games, costly software has to be built. FIGURAMA app is the new technology, that removes the need to build software to create interactive 3D stories. FIGURAMA is the paper for 3D stories.

3D comics content is made up of 3D scenes and interactive text, and can be developed entirely by artists and writers. FIGURAMA publishes this content and makes sure viewers have the best possible experience browsing it. They believe, that by making it easy to create and view 3D comics, they’re empowering many people to tell stories in a new way. Everyone is using digital devices, but these are capable of so much more, than just copy the functionality of paper. Interactive 3D stories on FIGURAMA take full advantage of modern digital devices and can form the most accessible interactive content library for the growing 3D, AR and VR platforms.
