The orchestra Two Steps From Hell (also referred as TSFH) has been a great source of entertainment and inspiration for me. Being a musician myself and having learned many of their songs on both the flute and the piano I was also interested in their history and feel like they deserve more recognition for their behind the scenes contributions to movies that are so widely known and loved. Because of this I visited the Two Steps From Hell page on Wikipedia and found three aspects of it worth commenting on: There was a lack of references from the page, There was also not very much information about Thomas Bergersen and there even less about Nick phoenix, who are the owners and creators of this company. And lastly there was a flag on the page stating that it seemed like it was written as an advertisement which I found odd considering they are not a public orchestra.
Lack of resources edit
I searched the internet on information for the page and found that due to it being a private movie trailer soundtrack company there wasn’t very many resources regarding their company. Facebook and their official website seemed to be the only truly reliable source that was used to link TSFH to most of the information on the page. The page does do a very good job of detailing which songs came from which album or which song was involved in what movie. I did feel like that was an impressive feat due to the severe lack of resources and how many movies they have actually been involved with but without the citing you may not be able to know if it's the correct information.
Personal composer information edit
The composers and creators of the company are Nick Pheonix and Thomas Bergersen. Outside of a very brief statement of who they are and when they founded the company there is nothing else about them on the page. Composer Thomas Bergersen does a have link to his own Wikipedia page but the page is missing a lot of information. It only provides information about his adult career and music contributions to the company. The composer Nick Pheonix had even less information on the page than his partner. I looked on the talk page and found that one contributor had once made a page but it was not deemed notable and it was deleted. I would have liked to see more about the composers. Especially if they aren't considered notable to have their own pages.
Breach of Wikipedia guidelines edit
The final issue that I noticed involved the page being written as an advertisement which is a breach in the specified guidelines. Due to my own knowledge that it is a private movie trailer production company they do not perform live for the public nor does their main revenue lie in sales from the public. There was a section labeled “Concerts” which referenced one of their only public concerts and stated that there was a rumor from one of the composers Facebook pages that they might be going on tour in the year 2016. I removed that section from the page because the information was outdated as it is 2017 and there has been no tour. With this is mind I felt it should be stated that there was no official declaration of future tours found and to avoid being seen as an advertisement I felt it shouldn't have that sort of information. I did add links to two songs with a “sneak peak” performance in a recording studio showcasing an album before its release in the past years that was not listed.
Summary edit
Overall I felt that the page was pretty decent given the seemingly private nature of the inner workings of the company and it's founders. But having become very popular and contributing to so many popular movies I feel they need more information there as well. I also feel that though the page is about the company and not the composers it would still be important to know their background especially if their own personal pages are going to be so lacking in information or do not exist at all. Also with Wikipedia intending it's pages to be unbiased, contributors should be careful not to have statements that can be taken as an attempt at advertising.
