Dr. Hussein Abd Sattar/Husain Sattar was born 1972 and raised in Chicago, Illinois(IL). He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology with honors from the University of Chicago in 1993 and went on to earn his MD degree from the Pritzker School of Medicine at the University of Chicago in 2001. He underwent residency training in a combined Anatomic and Clinical Pathology (AP/CP) program at the University of Chicago, where he was appointed as chief resident during his final year of training.

Husain Sattar, MD, is a surgical pathologist with particular skill and experience in breast and gynecologic pathology. Also an active educator and lecturer, Dr. Sattar is the associate director of the clinical pathophysiology and therapeutics course at the Pritzker School of Medicine. In this role, he serves as a dedicated instructor, advisor and mentor to second-year medical students, in addition to teaching a pathology review course that he developed. He has also authored several published research articles and abstracts in peer-reviewed medical journals.

Along with his medical studies, he continued his studies of sacred knowledge. In his final year, he took leave from medical school to focus on his religious studies, traveling to Syria and then Pakistan, where he studied a traditional curriculum for a number of years under some of their greatest scholars. Throughout his years of study, Dr. Husain also continued his training in Islamic Spirituality (tasawwuf) and was formally authorized to teach tasawwuf in July 2001.

To express his devotion to his faith, Dr. Sattar told the students that his religious education has helped him achieve his goals in his professional life.[1] As a religious guide and mentor, Sheikh Husain A. Sattar is very popular in young Muslims in the Chicago Metropolitan area. He regularly gives religious lectures at ICC and other Islamic Centers in Chicago. He has an impressive way of talking to the young Muslims. IMANA was honored to sponsor this very constructive session for the young Muslim students and we look forward to more events in the future.

Dr. Sattar is recognized by students and peers for his excellence as an educator at the Pritzker School of Medicine. He is a regular recipient of teaching awards, including the Outstanding Basic Science Teaching Award, [2] pre-clinical teaching awards,[3] the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award, [4] and the Favorite Faculty Award all between 2010 and 2012.
