Arasbaran is a sylvan highland located in East Azarbaijan Province and south of Aras River with over 70,000 Hectares land measure. The area faces Meshkinshahr and Mughan plain in east, and includes Ahar County.
Name
editArasbaran is the new name, the area was called "Qara Dagh" or "Qarajeh Dagh" before. The people from Meshkinshahr and Mughan plain use these names now.
History
editArasbaran was one of the most important battlefields in Russo-Persian Wars. Many Iranian munitions and men were provided there. Ataollah-Khan (Ata-Khan), The Ilkhan of Shahsavan accompanied by Abbas Mirza made this area the Anti-Russia resistance for many years. Rahim Khan Chalabianlou, Bagher Khan and Sattar Khan were from here. Yeprem Khan defeated Rahim Lhan here.
Arasbaran Jungle
editIn most north and west pieces of "Vaighan" (وایقان), "Ayinehlou" (آئینهلو), Hassan Abad (حسنآباد) and Dizmar (دیزمار) there are woodlands called "Arasbaranic Jungles". The Wildlife of the area is rare. A Jungle friut called "Ghareghat" (قرهقات) is aplenty found there too.
