editMonica first appeared in the pilot episode of Friends, where she is reunited with Rachel, an old high-school friend. After leaving her fiancé at the altar, Rachel moves into Monica's apartment that same day and becomes her roommate. That night Monica goes on a date with Paul, also known as "The Wine Guy". Monica had been wanting to go out with Paul for a while, but dumped him after he lied to her in order to get her to sleep with him.
In the first season, Monica was a chef at a restaurant called Iridium.
