I was born on April 16th which probably is known here and there as the birthday of Charlie Chaplin. In the 80ies it was celebrated as the birthday of Ernst Thälmann, too, but just in the so called German Democratic Republic. Thälmann, once the leader of the communist party of Germany, is now forgotten. That the eastern part of Germany is an area still different from the western part, different in history, different in infrastructure, different in the thoughts of the inhabitants, is forgotten, too, or often it is just ignored.

I learned this when my first article in the English Wikipedia was deleted, since nobody cares about an obscure summer school in Saxony-Anhalt. "Ignorance is strength", but I became quite disappointed to see it at work here in Wikipedia, too.
