Name query
Hi Al Ameer son. I have a query regarding the name given by the Knesset website to this Druze politician. I am not sure that "Laviv-Hussein Abu-Rochan" is a correct transliteration, as from what I remember from learning Arabic, the language does not have the letter "v", or use "ch". Based on the Arabic spelling "لبيب حسين أبو ركن", I would think it should be "Labib Hussein Abu Rokan". However, this is not a name I've come across before, so wanted to check that (as he is Druze and may have links to the former French colonies of Lebanon/Syria), his name isn't actually a Francophone one (in which cases Laviv and Rochan are possible). - I can't actually read the Arabic script. You might have better luck asking User:Fjmustak, User:Nableezy, or User:Zozo2kx. I can say I have never heard the name "Labib" or "Rokan" (which might be "Rokhan"), but these might be classic Arabic names that Bedouins often use. --Al Ameer son (talk) 19:35, 9 September 2009 (UTC)

Sheik Bureik
Hi again, After some time, (and big.time computer-problem) I am trying the Jayvd -solution...and I think it will work (at least if I can have the 1948-template uncollapsed while I´m working on the villages!) ...hope you didn´t get too put off by all the "dramah" (I normally *do* try to avoid it here ;P)
On another note, I was surfing over at the commons, and I found this: [9]...which made me very curious. I checked Khalidi,1992 and Petersen, 2002: both: nothing. But then, almost by chance, I saw in Moshe Sharon (2004) CIASP, Volume three, D-F........and there there was a lot about it, on p. xxxvii ff. under Beth Shearim and Shaykh Bureik. It seems as it was also mentioned in Canaan, T (1927): Mohammedan Saints and Sanctuaries in Palestine, p 111.(cited in Sharon, 2004, p.xxxix.) Sharon also mention nearby inscriptions (laments) over burial site, about 1000 years old, which he speculates could be the beginning of the shrine. In short: a most interesting place. From what I can find, the place is the "Sheik Bureik", still red-linked here: List of Arab localities in Israel#Haifa District.
Now, I have done next-to-nothing on present Arab localities in Israel, and I have no idea as to how to find present-day-information. As I know you have done quite a bit in this area; do you feel like starting an article here? Then I can fill in the history-bit, if you don´t have access to the Sharon 2004-book... Sheikh Bureik
Unfortunately I can't find anything about population - there's no article on the Hebrew wiki. There are a couple of references to it (Hebrew spelling: שיח'בוריק) on government websites (e.g. this), but nothing of any substance I'm afraid. The link provided suggests that it is in the Hadera area though. пﮟოьεԻ 57 08:30, 23 September 2009 (UTC)
- Google Maps shows it here. However, an aerial view of the area shows absolutely no buildings. An Arabic search came up with mostly one line about a massacre on December 30, 1947 in which 40 people were killed in the village of Sheikh Bureik. Another Arabic website mentions that Sde Ya'akov was built on part of the village of Sheikh Bureik, as well as Elro'i, Kiryat Haroshet and Sha'ar HaAmakim.
Another site had this to say about Sheikh Bureik:
Sheikh Bureik is a small Arab village to the southwest of Haifa. The Armenians settled this small village next to the settlements of Atlit and Neve Yam, and in 36, the Armenian population did not exceed 30. The village disappeared and on its ruins several Zionist settlements were built, such as Elro'i and Kiryat Haroshet and others. Sheikh Bureik and Khirbet Al-Malaha contain ruins and tombs carved in rock and presses and tanks(?). The Zionists try as usual to claim the history of Sheikh Bureik to their culture by saying it was built on top of Beit Shearim. And in order to achieve this goal, the Jewish Agency launched archaeological digs in Palestine in 1937 and unearthed mass graves on the Western slope of the hill. And in 1938, some murals were found inside the tombs, as well as about 130 engravings mostly in Greek, seven in Palmyran, and a few in Hebrew. But finding a few Hebrew writings does not mean the city was Hebrew.
Aside from the Anti-Semitic rhetoric in this paragraph, the author seems to be confusing two different Sheikh Bureiks: One near Atlit (the Google Maps one), and one in the Beit She'arim National Park area. I found another document (that seems more authoritative and includes references) that talks about the one near Atlit (as one of the archaeological sites near Atlit, there's more info on 'Atlit we could include in its article):
Khirbat Al-Malaha: called Khirbat Al-Malha today. In the southern part of the village, it contains (including Sheikh Bureik) "foundations, rock carvings, tombs, caves, quarries, tanks, and presses" (Palestinian Facts "الوقائع الفلسطينية" p. 1585). And Sheikh Bureik is a small Armenian village next to the settlements of Atlit and Neve Yam [10]. In 1961 it had a population of 61. During Roman times, Migdal Malha was established in that location, and Yaqut mentioned it in Al-Mushtarak page 385 by the name of "Majdal MalHaa'".
A Google book search on Sheikh Bureik resulted in one full view book (Biblical Researches in Palestine), and a few other snippet view books.
Finall, this site mentions that Sheikh Bureik was one of the 20 villages in the Shefa 'Amr Liwa' of the Akka Qada' (in Ottoman times), which would put it closer to the Beit Shearim location.

- Oh, and if you look at the ext. links under Beit She'arim National Park...you´ll see pictures of the the shrine. It does not look as if there are any houses in the vicinity. In the submission to UNESCO in 2002, it is written that the place was "Known by its Arabic name Sheikh Ibreik". Guerin also wrote about it in 1880 (according to Sharon). This is what Canaan wrote about the shrine in 1927 (accoring to Sharon): "After a barren woman has taken a bath in el-Matba´ah she washes herself in Ein Ishaq; she goes then to ash-shekh Ibreik to offer a present." (Canaan, 1927, p. 111). The Beit She'arim National Park-page is completely lacking/misleading: the place was used as a burial place also in the Muslim-period, at least until the tenth century. Page 158 of Hütteroth has "Sayk Burayk" in the vacinity of modern Kiryat Tivon [11], not near Atlit, which was incidentally written on the image of a building someone found (can't recall where). 1596 population = 22 Muslim families. Its district was "Za'ama wa timar, Nahiya Sahil 'Atlit, Liwa Lajjun". Zerotalk 08:13, 26 September 2009 (UTC)

<--- I'm getting closer to the conclusion that there were two places called Sheikh Bureik in the Haifa area. One near Atlit and the other near Beit She'arim park. Here's another site that talks about the unrecognized village of Ein Hawd. It says:
Original location: About 12km south of Haifa, about 3km away from the Mediterranean. To the northeast (8km) is Isifya. To the east (6km) is Daliyat al-Karmel. To the southeast (7.5km) is Maqura. To the southwest (5km) Sheikh Bureik.....

- Here's an Israeli tourist information site with a tour in the Ein Hod, Atlit area, ending in Sheikh Bureik. It describes exactly the way to get to the Google map location (HaMeyasdim to HaHarduf past a train station, all the way down to the Neve Yam interchange, take the dirt road on the left...) It also mentions something about Sheikh Bureik being Barak ben Avinoam. Talks about the Armenian refugess settling the area in 1926 until the eighties. On the Survey of Western Palestine map (Sheet 5 showing late 1878) "Sheikh Abrak" appears south of Atlit. See the portion I uploaded for the Atlit article: [12] at lower left. It is shown as ruins with some tombs. "Sheikh Abreik" shows as a living village in the Tivon area (Sheet 5, Li). So these are certainly two different locations. The "Name Lists" volume of the SWP says Abrak might be from "to bless" and "Abreik" is "really the same word...but pronounced with the imaleh" (what does that mean? my Arabic is nonexistent). The Tivon one was a village in 1596, as I indicated above. The Atlit one was the site of the 1596 village Malaha (pop 8 families). Notice "Kurbet Malhah" right beside Sheikh Abrak on the map; SWP Vol I, 314-316 describes it as ruins of a village with many tombs nearby. Based on the age and location, Vol I p289 suggests Malhah was the Magdiel of the Onomasticon of Eusebius of Caesarea. Zerotalk 04:27, 27 September 2009 (UTC)

Could you take a look?
At Arab Christians. It was recently moved to Arabic speaking Christians out of process, and now it cannot be moved back. There is a discussion on the talk page and both and I another editor have tried to move the page back, but it needs admin help. A previous move discussion had decided Arab Christians was good. The move was done with some discussion but without a formal move request and there is no clear consensus on a new name. There is even some discussion about creating a second article. Gamal Abdel Nasser
Hi there. I noticed that you are expanded the section on Nasser's family, and I hope you don't mind if I make a few suggestions. Right now the additions read a bit too much like a narrative and could do with some rewording to be more encyclopediatic. For instance, instead of saying "The newly-wed couple settled in a modest villa located in Manshiyat al-Bakri, a Cairo suburb. He would live the remainder of his life in the house.", it would be better to say something like this: "After their wedding, the couple moved into a house in Manshiyat al-Bakri, a suburb of Cairo, where they would live for the rest of their lives." I also feel like your including a little bit too much detail. It makes more sense to stick with the basic facts. For instance, some parts of this paragraph:
The couple lived a relatively conventional Egyptian lifestyle, with Tahia concentrating on home-making and raising the children, while Nasser concentrated on his career and politics. Throughout their marriage, she mostly remained outside the public eye. The two would freely discuss state affairs with each other, but for the most part Nasser preferred to relax when at home as a "normal" husband and father. Although he was a busy person, Nasser devoted a lot of his time with his children, playing ping-pong and chess with them in particular when they grew older.
could probably be removed and the main points written in one or two sentences. I'm not trying to undermine your authority or anything, and I hope you don't take this as a criticism. Before Jehan Al Sadat the wife of the president didn't have any role in politics, since she wasn't the chosen president. Jehan Al Sadat introduced that and also introduced the naming after Husbands (Al Sadat from Anwar Al Sadat and Suzanne Mubarak from Hosny Mubarak). This is something that isn't of arabic tradition and isn't practiced, afk, in any other arabic country. The word First lady of Egypt doesn't exist in the Egyptian's minds or politics. The arabic articles mentions President's wives as their wives, that's it. When there is a candidacy only the individual nominated presents himself and not his hole family, since that isn't a concern of the public at all. In Nasser's time arabic values were of the utmost importance. A president's wife retains her name (Tahia Kazem) and isn't part of the political life. Affiliating an individual to political lives, just because he/she is related to the president is considered an abuse of power. So referring to Tahia Kazem as a first lady would be considered wrong. She was the wife of the president. I'm not sure if Tahia Kazem has enough notability to have her own article. If you could just list sources or type a stub under your namespace with any notability proof then I could give you a better opinion on the notability part. Arafat's sexual orientation
This issue has been raised many times from many quarters. Yet each time it is raised, there's no discussion or debate. The issue is immediately quashed by the "thought police." No matter how many sources are provided, the edits are reverted in knee-jerk fashion. I have provided three sources for the edit and can provide numerous others (Al Jazeera is not among them). Re lead request
I took a look at the current lead. Its brief, but not so bad really. (Did you write it?) Anyway, I'm not so free these days. But if I may make a suggestion... the nationalization of the Suez Canal and Nasser's involvement in the Non Aligned Movement following the 1956 Bandung conference really should both be mentioned in the lead too. He was a figure of some renown even outside the Arab world for his leadership among "third world" countries. I believe in an encyclopedia writing from a worldwide perspective, such things should be mentioned prominently as well. Good luck with that though and I'll try to pop in when I can. Hi AL ameer son, I want to bring your an attention to an editor who makes daily POV edits to a lot of articles,♥Yasmina♥ has a phobia of anything Arab or Arabic, even though she speaks Arabic at home and her edits involve removing the "Arab" categories to articles of Lebanese people as she sees fit. For example she is now going to articles of Lebanese Americans and removing the category "Arab American", even though the latter category relates to Americans whose ancestry comes from the Arab world. I just read WP:EGRS and saw that it is legitimate to have a category such as "Arab Americans" for Americans who come from countries where the official language is Arabic. I have explained to this editor on more than one occasion that she does not speak for the Lebanese Christian community, but she doesn't see the distinction, For instance when I brought up the example of Jim Zogby, who is a Lebanese Christian, who founded the Arab-American institute and her resposne was that he is a traitor. - Needless to say, it is POV to remove the "Arab" label in categories for Lebanese-related articles, whether it has to do with Muslim or Christian Lebanese since obviously many, if not most, Lebanese people identify as Arabs and are Arabic-speakers. Even if some Lebanese in the diaspora reject being called Arab, the fact that Lebanon is undoubtedly an Arab country (the birthplace of Arab nationalism along with Syria for that matter) outweighs people's personal views. Unfortunately, I don't know if I can be too helpful in this issue because I've been inactive lately and will continue to be inactive for some time. I have a feeling this is going to be a long, tiring, and complicated debate since it involves the same users who have relentlessly tried to eliminate the "Arab" label from Lebanon, Iraq, Egypt and other Arab world-related articles on Wikipedia in the past. Since I probably won't be available for a while, try contacting other administrators for help with this issue. Arab is an Identity give me a source where these Lebanese who are listed have themselves stated themself as Arab (i.e not in Lebanon since the taef famous leb ppl are mostly force to say it in public otherwise publically they will get shunned) but for the Arab-American, Arabs of the Ottoman era etc Then I will leave it as is if not then dont complain if I remove an unsourced POV and dont even try to cry racism either. Help Needed for the article Zakir_Naik
Recently a stange pattern of events have been happening in the dispute process of the article Zakir_Naik, What I observed is that everybody who have been consistently disputing some edit content in the article have been issued a permenant block, I was a victim of such a block, but fortunatly I got my id unblocked by a secondary opinion.
At times a lot of people share the same views. Especially now since this article have been modyfied a lot of times and some content were recently added which defeats the neutrality of the article. A lot of negetive content now exists in the article, chances for correcting them are denied. My story is that, I created an id in Wiki just so that I can put in my contributions to make this article neutral, I believe there are lot of other users who started off just like me. I think the suspecion of sock puppet starts right there, but we fail to consider that these users might be all seperate individuals, sharing the same views.
Iam seeing that the block is sometimes issued based on their common views.If that is the case Ari89 and Jeff5102 share exactly the same view they are both contributing the same content to the article Zakir_Naik.
I really fail to understand why the others are all victims of the ban. I would please request you to look into this in a detail manner, Iam not implying that a violation by sock puppet is not at all commited. But I really believe that we might have erred in some cases for sure, like it happened to me.
Right now Iam the only person who is contributing to the discussion of the article, and I am being ignored completly.
So many of the users have been telling me that it's simple politics being played, just for them to have control over the article and supress users who dispute them, I honestly don't believe that, I still have faith in all the admins of wikipedia. I truely believe we can come up with a proper justice in this matter.

- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en wikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. - Hahaha wla rudeness wla ishy ya zalameh. I haven't been on for months (actually feels like a year). Anyway, its good to hear from you nableezy and even better to see you have still been contributing relentlessly. Congratulations on Al-Azhar Mosque, it's shaping up very nicely... I will see if I could contribute to it although it already reads amazingly, a lot of valuable info. We should really try to upgrade al-Azhar and Gamal Abdel Nasser as well to Featured status. why did you change "Palestinian Christians" to Christians, and "Palestinian Christians" to "Arab Christians"?
I think that it should be made clear that the Christians of this town are Palestinians and not foreigners, and in the second link, that these Christians are Palestinians, and should be linked to Palestinian Christians link and not Arab Christians (which talks about all Arab Christians in general)--82.213.38.2 (talk) 10:47, 14 December 2010 (UTC)
