In addition, a reflection inspired by a conversation with Malcolm Potts, UC Berkeley professor:

Wikipedia is a quintessential human endeavor, for it is human knowledge, its expansion, recording, and transmission to fellow human beings and future generations that advances humankind; it is humanity's historical ability to learn, discover, and teach knowledge that lies at the heart of what it is to be and develop into a human being; it is this individual and collective ability that distinguishes humans from primates.
And where every generation and every individual can build upon the collective knowledge and advance it further, so that we all stand on the shoulders of the giants that preceded us, and we prop upwards and forwards our progeny.
