Joanne Julian was born in San Fernando Valley, California in 1949. She studied and traveled to Asia which directly inspires and translates in her artwork. Her art style is called haboku or otherwise known as ("flung ink" style.), comes from Buddhism and was practiced by monks. Her artwork includes visuals that are associated with music and dance. She has been referred to as "a modern American master of haboku ("flung ink" style.)

Accomplishments edit

Joanne Julian graduated from California State University, Northridge. In 1973 she received an MFA degree in painting from College of the Canyons in Valencia, CA.

Her most recent event was this year Joanne Julian: Garden Sprits, Tufenkian Fine Arts, Glendale, CA on September 16th, 2023. The artwork being displayed was heavily inspired by her childhood working in her family's garden.
