Article review

edit

I visited the Linda Smyth page on Wikipedia, and found three aspects of it worth commenting on. The article is short with a lack of sections, the majority of the sources were all retrieved at the same time and she may not be notable enough to warrant a biographical page.

Sections

edit

The only section headed in this article discusses her "Political Career and Community Involvement". This section has a relatively complimentary connotation and there are no contrasting criticisms present. There is also no mention of her early life or of her involvement in other aspects of society besides her political career in Fairfax County, Virginia. Given the information the article does have, it appears possible to break the article into multiple sections; perhaps separating the political office she was voted into and her other posts in the community such as seats on various boards of directors.

Citations

edit

There are multiple sources from sources that appear to be reliable; however, the concerning aspect is the retrieval date of the sources. All 12 of the sources retrieved in the footnotes were retrieved on the same date. This leads to a concern about the diversity of contributors. Although the edit history suggests that there are over a half dozen contributors, the majority of the substance of this article appears to have one article.

Notability

edit

This brings about a larger scope debate that could be quite contentious. There is a certain level of notability that people must have to warrant a biographical Wikipedia page. I think this is a fabric of natural selection and not some type of caste system bourgeoisie conspiracy. One must simply have enough information in the public domain available about them from reliable sources in order to have an encyclopedic biography available to the masses. Wikipedia notes in their heading that Linda Smyth's notability is up for debate.

Summary

edit

Overall I would say this article is on the poor side. Linda Smith may have lot's of substantive diverse biographical content, but it is not outlined in the article. In order to improve this article I would add more personable content if available (Childhood, early education, places lived) and break up the one section into a couple to appear more inclusive to her full diverse career path.
