John McKendrick (21 February 1868 – 14 March 1957) was a Scotland international rugby union player. [1]

editMcKendrick was the son of John McKendrick, a mechanical engineer, and Janet Turner. They married in 1862.
McKendrick married Janet Robson Landels in Dunedin, New Zealand on 18 March 1903.
Many of his brothers also played rugby union.
The eldest was William Pollock McKendrick (born 12 February 1863), a forward who played for Glasgow Academicals; and played for Glasgow District in 1884 in the inter-city.[4] In 1885 he switched position and he was found playing quarter-back or three-quarters.[5][6] He was injured around 1888 but managed to play for Academicals in January 1889, the Glasgow Herald noting he played well on his comeback.[7] William later became a Oil Company Sales Manager.
Charles Duncan Turner McKendrick (born 1 June 1864), a forward who played for West of Scotland;[8] and played for Glasgow District in 1888 in the inter-city;[9] and played for West of Scotland District in 1889.[10] It was Charles McKendrick who was named in the original selection for the Scotland international - but evidently John turned up in his place.[11]
Turner McKendrick (born 21 December 1873) played for Glasgow Academicals as a forward in the late 1890s.[12][13][14]
Other brothers were James Cleland McKendrick (born 23 January 1872), Robert McKendrick (born 1876) and Arthur McKendrick (born 1880).
Outside of rugby union
editMcKendrick became a Calico Printer salesman.
