Sheena Margaret Begg (nee Boyd 27 November 1921 - 11 January 2009) was a Scottish painter.[1]
Life
editHer father was Archibald Knox Houston Boyd (3 May 1886 - 20 July 1958), a solicitor and bank agent. Her mother was Jane Hardie Beveridge (1 July 1889 - 20 January 1963). They married on 15 April 1914 in Edinburgh.
Sheena Margaret Boyd was born on 27 November 1921 in Largs.[2][3]
She married Dr. Robert William Begg (19 February 1922 - 1 March 2001) from Gourock, in 1948. They both went to Greenock Academy. An accountant to trade, he latterly turned to painting. However he became more known as an administrator than an artist. He became a governor of Glasgow School of Art from 1955 to 1977; then a Trustee of the National Galleries of Scotland from 1974 to 1991; and was Chairman of the National Galleries of Scotland between 1981 to 1988.[4]
She stayed at 3 Colquhoun Drive in Bearsden, East Dunbartonshire.[5]
Art
editIn 1981 she exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy her work: Wallflowers and Butterflies.[6]
Death
editShe died on 11 January 2009.
