Thomas Fairbairn (8 August 1820 - 21 October 1884) was a Scottish painter.

Life edit

His father was Thomas Fairbairn (born c. 1785) in Clachan of Campsie.

His mother was Jean Cassels (c. 1782 - 1866) from Kippen. Thomas and Jean married on 8 February 1806 in Kippen.

Thomas Fairbairn was born on 8 August 1820 at Clachan of Campsie.

He married Janet Seller (c. 1824 - 16 February 1904) from Glasgow. They married in Glasgow on 25 June 1844.

Their daughter Margaret Fairbairn (6 January 1849 - 25 February 1927) married the artist Sir James Lawton Wingate.

Art edit

One of his pupils was the artist William Mustart Lockhart, who similarly painted west of Scotland locales.

Death edit

He died on 21 October 1884 in Hamilton, South Lanarkshire. The value of his estate was given as £1130, 7 shillings and 9 pence.
