Tapas Roy was born on 7th February 1969 at a tiny town of Maynaguri in the district of Jalpaiguri of West Bengal. His father Late Khagendra Nath Roy was a government employee who shifted his family to Kolkata. He got his son admitted in an Anglo Indian english medium School at Park Circus, Kolkata. At the time of admission name of his son was Antony Roy. For many various reasons Antony was later shifted to a Primary Bengali medium school at south Kolkata. His name was then changed from Antony Roy to Tapas Roy. In the year 1981(10th January) Late Khagendra Nath Roy died suddenly of a massive cerebral attack. Tapas was a brilliant student from his childhood under the guidance of his father. But after the death of his father Tapas became less attentive in his study. From class 11 and 12 he was attached to extreme left politics. A fiery student leader in Netaji Nagar Day College. His speech in college campus would mesmerise the audience. Later he left politics to save his family and joined government service through WBCS examination. While Now a bureaucrat under the government of West Bengal he is a good story writer in Bengali either. Many popular stories like Kadaverer Mukh, saikeler Dam, Shrobon, Halud Gari, Vogno Somporker Jadughar, Pratisthpan were published in Ananbazar, Desh, Sananda etc. Apart from being a writer He has active interest in theatre acting and singing.
