Strategic Mid-Range Fires (SMRF) is an American project intending to provide the U.S. Army with the capability to attack land targets between the ranges of the Precision Strike Missile and the experimental Long-Range Hypersonic Weapon, and improve the Army's ability for what they refer to as Long-Range Precision Fires.[1] SMRF has modified the U.S. Navy's Tomahawk, and RIM-174 (SM-6) for use in the Typhon Missile System.[2] The implementation of the SM-6 and Tomahawk cruise missile is intended to bolster the U.S. Army's long range capabilities with the Extended Range Cannon Artillery and Precision Strike Missile (PrSM).[2]
