Definitions

edit

International vs. domestic

edit

Flights between two countries are known as international flights. Flights within one country are known as domestic flights. In some cases, a flight between two airports in one country stop in another country, for example Air France flies between Paris and Tahiti, French Polynesia via Los Angeles.

Non-stop, direct, and connecting flights

edit

A flight which travels between two airports is a non-stop flight. A flight with stops that has the same flight number and involves no change in aircraft is known as a direct flight; if a flight number is different on one segment of the flight, it is known as a connecting flight. The stop on a direct or connecting flight may be made for any combination of: embarking passengers, disembarking passengers, or technical reasons (eg. refuel, change crew).
