Background

ADRUCK22 (talk) 03:33, 21 April 2016 (UTC) I am a Junior studying Physiological Sciences at Marquette University. My ultimate goal is to become a physician, and specialize in either cardiology, ophthalmology, or nephrology. I am passionate about science, research, language, and service. My interest in science and research go hand and hand. I have been fortunate to have been able to work alongside one of my professors to study how mutations in genes that code for actin affect prion formation in cells. I believe research has improved my ability to search for solutions, in addition to rekindling my love for biology. My research experience showed how much we have yet to learn, therefore I am very curious as to what the future holds for the field of neurobiology. In addition to the sciences, I am also passionate about learning foreign languages. I am pursuing Spanish as a minor, and traveled to Spain through Marquette's Summer Study Abroad program. Finally, I believe service has had a large impact on my Marquette experience, thus it has become an essential part of who I am.

Science and Research

edit

I studied prion formation in yeast cells and observed how mutated forms of actin effected the appearance of rings--the precursor indicating prion development.

Language

I remember taking a basic Spanish class in preschool, and since then I have been dedicated to learning and understanding Spanish and the Spanish culture. This past summer, I had the opportunity to travel to Spain and study at the Universidad de Complutense in Madrid. One of my favorite places that I traveled to was Granada, as it had an amazing mix of Muslim and Christian culture.

Service

edit

Below is a list of the different types of service that I have been involved in while at Marquette

  • Emergency Department Volunteer
  • Mardi Gras Service Trip
  • Service Learning at Marquette Dental Clinic South
  • Site volunteer around Milwaukee
