Brandon Sum,[2] better known by his stage names YGOnDaBeat and YG Eaze, is an Asian American record producer and rapper from Rochester, Minnesota. He is a part of the hip hop group Get Money Family (GMF) along rappers T-Go and Treezy, and has produced many songs for Chief Keef's Glory Boyz Entertainment.

Biography edit

YG was influenced by hip hop since an early age and started producing in 2009 for local Minnesota artists.[1] He and T-Go created the rap group GMF and were later joined by Treezy. GMF got their first major performance in November 2011 in their hometown.[3]

In 2012, YG got in touch with Chicago rapper Chief Keef through their mutual relative, producer Casa Di. Keef was searching for beats for his debut album Finally Rich and picked two of YG's instrumentals for the songs "Got Them Bands" and "Laughing to the Bank."[1] Writer Colton S. of The Versed praised the production on the later as "pretty solid" in his review of Finally Rich.[4] YG went on to produce songs for a number of artists, signed to Keef's label GBE – SD, Tray Savage, Ballout and Capo, and is currently working on new songs with Keef himself.[1]

Production style and influence edit

YG is inspired by trap music and uses a lot of trumpets, bells, synths and orchestra hits in his music. He uses the production software FL Studio. YG stated he wanted to work with Gucci Mane, Future, Yo Gotti, 2 Chainz and Rick Ross, among others.[1]
