Michael Rose (born 1953) is a consultant, author and speaker who specialises in reward and engagement.

Life

Rose was born and brought up in Nottingham, where he was educated at Mundella Grammar school and Trent Polytechnic. Rose’s career started in HR at Abbey Life Assurance, initially in London in 1975 before the company relocated to Bournemouth in 1976. His roles have included spells in Consulting and corporates:

 Graduate trainee, training officer, compensation manager, Abbey Life Assurance, Bournemouth 1975–88

 Human Resources Manager, European Insurance Operations, NZI Insurance Sussex,1988-89

 Executive Consultant, KPMG, London, 1989-95

 Head of Reward Management, TSB Bank, Birmingham, 1995-96

 Senior Manager, Arthur Andersen Reading, 1996-2001

 Director of Reward Aon, Aon Ltd, London, 2001-09

 Owner, Rewards Consulting, London, 2009 –

 Partner, Reward Consulting Partners, London 2011- 2018

In 1998 Rose was awarded an MA in HR Management by Oxford Brookes University, where his dissertation was on the effectiveness of Recognition schemes in UK businesses.

He was honorary adviser to the HR Committee of Cancer Research UK 2002-4.

He became an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute in 1984. He is also a Fellow of the RSA and a member of World at Work.

He has been involved with the CIPD since the 1970s. He was chairman of the Bournemouth and Poole Group 1986-88 and was Vice President, Reward, 2007-08. He was made a Chartered Companion of the CIPD in 2008.

In 2009 Rose was voted compensation and benefits professional of the year by Employee Benefits magazine.

Personal life

He is married to Roz Rosenblatt, and lives in North London. He is interested in bridge and the theatre and is a Life Benefactor of the National Theatre.
