Estoril Conferences is an international platform that held in Cascais, Portugal since 2009. The Conferences have been attended by Nobel Prize laureates and current and former Heads of State. The events provides a platform to promote an open dialogue on global challenges. The 7th Edition of the Estoril Conferences will take place in 1-2 September 2022.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7]

History

The first edition was held in 2009 in Cascais, Portugal, since then it is taking place biannually. Since 2009, the conferences has attracted more than 9,000 participants from over 70 countries.[8]

From the 1st edition onward, several renowned speakers have attended the Estoril conferences, some of those include: Tony Blair, Mikhail Gorbachev, Edward Snowden, Madeleine Albright, Frederik de Klerk, Herman Van Rompuy, Lech Walesa, Shirin Ebadi, Christopher Pissarides, Nouriel Roubini, Mohamed ElBaradei, Dominique de Villepin among others.[9][10][11]

Awards

Since the 1st Edition in 2009, Estoril conferences have awarded prizes in the category of written work to different authors. The conferences also highlights several local projects, initiatives and practices under Estoril Local Answers Award. In addition to that, the conferences has provided research grants to students under 30 for their research project proposals, presented in Portuguese.[8][12]
