The Global Product Strategy

edit

The Global Product Safety Strategy (CPS) is a non-profit voluntary industry initiative developed by the International Council of Chemical Associations (ICCA)to harmonise the safe management of chemicals across the globe as part of its commitment to the United Nations Environment Program Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM). CPS is part of the Responsible Care programme.

Background

edit

The Global Product Strategy (GPS) was introduced by the International Council of Chemical Associations in 2006 at the UN International Conference on Chemicals Management in Dubai as a contribution to the inter-governmental SAICM (Strategic Alignment of International Chemicals Management). [1] It was in response both to new global challenges for the chemical industry (e.g. EU legislation - Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals), and to stakeholders requiring the chemical industry to demonstrate that they produce and handle chemicals safely and that their products are safe for humans and the environment when used as intended.
