Antibiotic resistance is a form of specialized drug resistance. It evolves through processes of random mutation via natural selection. Antibiotic resistance is the ability for a bacterium, virus, or fungus to withstand the effects of antibiotic treatment. Superbugs are the informal name of resistant bacteria, meaning a microorganism comprised of several antibiotic-resistant genes. Today, the rate of drug-resistant infections is on the rise. The largest source of antibiotic-contaminated resources is within the foods we eat. The current amount antibiotic regulation on food animals is slim and can be improved tremendously. Without action, the rise of more antibiotic-resistant superbugs will continue to grow.
