Prehaps, a major Conflict of Interest

Let's admit it, We've all have had a Conflict of Interest somewhere during our time here on Wikipedia. Whether it be from Paid Editing from a relationship with someone, or a company you know, it's a Conflict of Interest. Conflict of Interests should 'always be avoided on Wikipedia. While here on Wikipedia, you should avoid writing articles about yourself, people you know, or companies you know. Also be very careful when it comes to Paid Editing, Major Conflict of Interests could happen which could result on you being Blocked from editing. Whether you are paid or not, you must be very careful on how you write or edit articles, and how they are worded.


Ways to avoid a Conflict of Interest on Paid Editing/Editing

  • Stay in a Neutral Point of View (NPOV)
  • Ask other editors to assist you in writing articles
  • Don't edit articles of your own company
  • Don't edit articles of someone you know
  • Ask for advice at The Teahouse
  • Don't use your Userpage to Advertise
  • Submit an article through Articles for Creation
  • Do not create an Advertising only account
  • Do not create a promotional username

Most Importantly.... IF you are paid to edit, Your paid editing MUST BE Disclosed on your userpage.

Avoiding a COI in general

  • It does not matter, who you are, if you are paid or not, YOU must follow the rules on Wikipedia. :-)
  • Don't make an article about yourself, even if you are notable, if you are notable, someone will soon create an article about you.
  • Use your Sandbox to draft articles
