Modify to use same format as WikiProject California?

edit

template:WikiProject California seems to have a lot more options (e.g. tags for importance, image needed, etc.) Any objections to modifying it to use for this WikiProject template? --Roswell native 06:19, 26 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sounds good to me. No use reinventing the wheel. At some point, I'll start working on instructions for this as well. -- Satori Son 21:39, 27 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
OK, just converted the template to the California layout. Everything appears to work. --Roswell native 20:32, 31 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
Looks great! I've started adding the instructions, but some of the optional fields are new to me. I'll look for an existing state template that already has instructions and try to finish in the next day or so. -- Satori Son 20:39, 31 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Why the ???

edit

I'm just curious as to why the three question marks are below the flag? JohnCub 21:35, 30 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

It's for the class rating. If that parameter is left blank, it shows as question marks and causes the article's talk page to be placed in the Unassessed article category for the WikiProject. For example, if you supply class=Stub to the template, the "???" would be replaced with "Stub".--Roswell native 22:26, 30 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
Makes perfect sense. Thanks for the info. JohnCub 14:23, 1 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Template parameters

edit

Please check out Talk:Ty Cobb Museum to see the template with all parameters "turned on". We need to come up with some images for some of them (e.g. article of the month) as it looks like this template was stolen from the Boy Scouts. Also, where do you think the links such as "collaboration of the month" should point? Right now they just go to WP:GEORGIA.--Roswell native 03:13, 1 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

I've updated the picture for "article of the month" and will look for some others.
And, trying not to brag, let me say that our template here is already absolutely the best of all the WikiProject state's templates (I know because I looked at them all today in the search for images). Roswell native is doing an absolutely fantastic job on this, and we owe him/her a big thanks. -- Satori Son 17:20, 1 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thanks SS. Any gifted artistic folks out there want to do a nice looking outline of Georgia to replace the current boy scout images on several of the tags.--Roswell native 04:30, 6 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
Since no volunteers, I have found images for the two remaining categories and have updated. Hope everyone approves. -- Satori Son 15:18, 12 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Since I think we're finished for now, I have also created a stable example at Template:WikiProject GeorgiaUS/Example and provided a link in the instructions. I'll also fix the temp one at Talk:Ty Cobb Museum. -- Satori Son 15:45, 12 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Behavior for Importance tag for non-articles

edit

One of the other editors pointed out that for cat and dab class articles (i.e. non-articles), this template incorrectly puts those articles into the Category:Unknown-importance Georgia (U.S. state) articles. I tried to tweak this template to fix that but was unsuccessful with my quick attempts. Anyone else want to take a shot? All the article talk pages in Category:Category-Class Georgia (U.S. state) articles are examples of this behavior.

The other option would be replate this code with that of another template that does work as needed. In looking around, Template:WikiProject Texas appears to work as desired and the code is neat and looks much easier to edit. Any objections to just using theirs instead? That seems the easiest and best solution to me. --Roswell native (talk) 17:03, 31 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

I think I have fixed the issue above if anyone wants to check out my test template - Template:WikiProject GeorgiaUStest. I am using it on a test talk page if you want to play with it there: User talk:Roswell native/testing. If it looks OK to folks, I will replace the current template with this updated one. --Roswell native (talk) 09:40, 2 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
I replaced the old template with the updated/fixed version. I indicated that in the edit summary so feel free to revert back if there were any issues with it that I missed in testing.--Roswell native (talk) 03:14, 7 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Photo request feature

edit

I received a message from User:GregManninLB about using this template for photo requests specific to Georgia counties, which is relevant for the articles to be indexed by List of National Historic Landmarks in Georgia (U.S. state). I tested it out in one article, Talk:Bellevue (LaGrange, Georgia), using "imageneeded=yes" and "in=Troup County, Georgia" parameters. When I check, I see that this template does in fact put the photo request for Bellevue into "Category:Wikipedia requested photographs in Troup County, Georgia". However, I think it would be better if the template showed that was done, as the reqphoto template does (showing a message like "Wikipedians in Troup County, Georgia can help!"). The template currently provides no indication to editors that the request is specific to the county. Note, Talk:Calhoun Mine already had a GeorgiaUS photo request with just the "imageneeded=yes" parameter, and it appears the same, not giving any hint that a more specific location would be helpful.

Also, I think it would be nice if the template provided a link to the corresponding county-specific photo request category. The reqphoto template does not do that, but why not provide this service? That could be done by wikilinking in the message like "Wikipedians in "Category:Wikipedia requested photographs in Troup County, Georgia|Troup County, Georgia" can help!" which the template can be modified to display.

Finally, I wonder about your choice to use the picture frame image to illustrate the template. Why not use the camera image used in reqphoto, instead? That would make it more clear that the usual function of the reqphoto template is fully met by the GeorgiaUS template. Note I added the reqphoto also to Talk:Calhoun Mine. To me, the camera image looks better. I hope these suggestions might be helpful. doncram (talk) 21:25, 7 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

I changed the image to a camera. I tried add the "Wikipedians in {{{in}}}''' may be able to help!" portion of Template:Reqphoto, but couldn't get it to work. GregManninLB (talk) 15:07, 8 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for trying to edit the template and for responding here. I see that linking to the Category is not obvious to program, but now I see also that is not so necessary. The talk page itself will belong to the category, and the would-be photographer can just follow the regular category available at the bottom of the page. So that wikilink would have been redundant, anyhow. Another lesser comment: the message given is a bit wordy perhaps. The whole sentence "Please work with WikiProject Georgia (U.S. state) to add a suitable image to this article" might be dropped. It suggests some mysterious process, as if a person can't just add a photo on their own, why/how would they have to coordinate with the Wikiproject? I think what you mean is to please help the wikiproject by adding a suitable image, but you are already asking for help. So the whole sentence could be dropped, or the text displayed could otherwise be shortened. The point is to save space relative to having a separate reqphoto box on the Talk page. Thanks! doncram (talk) 15:31, 8 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
That verbose language was from WikiProject Templates and is in all the state templates. I revised it so now it appears as at Template:WikiProject GeorgiaUS/Example and Talk:Banks County, Georgia. GregManninLB (talk) 13:14, 9 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Oh, i hadn't been watching this page, and am reading now that you made those improvements. Good, i like the Banks County example now. doncram (talk) 01:37, 8 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
There's now a unified discussion / proposal of image request improvements at the following, please see: Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Photography#Requests for Pictures, Images and Photographs. I am going to watch there, not here. Thanks! doncram (talk) 01:37, 8 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Update to template for work groups

edit

Is there an admin who can update the template to add code to sort articles based upon the work group the article falls in? I updated a copy of the template at User:Absolon/Georgia template. With the added code editors can add the "education=yes" parameter to the template to have articles flagged for the Education Work Group. Thanks. -- Absolon S. New version of template

edit

I've got an updated template at Template:WikiProject GeorgiaUS/sandbox which uses WPBannerMeta. Any objections to using it? -- WOSlinker (talk) 21:58, 17 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Implemented. Any queries or concerns, please get in touch! — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 16:44, 20 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
It's completely messed up! I would revert but it is protected. See the top of this page. See Talk:Jimmy Carter National Historic Site, or any of hundreds of GA places listed within List of RHPs in GA that i happen to be working on now. doncram (talk) 17:06, 20 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
What it displays is:
{{WPBannerMeta |PROJECT = Georgia (U.S. state)

|BANNER_NAME = Template:WikiProject GeorgiaUS
|substcheck={{subst:substcheck}}
|small =
|category=¬
|listas =

|IMAGE_LEFT = Flag_of_Georgia_%28U.S._state%29.svg |IMAGE_LEFT_LARGE = 100px |IMAGE_LEFT_SMALL = 40px |QUALITY_SCALE = yes

|FULL_QUALITY_SCALE = yes
|class=Stub

|IMPORTANCE_SCALE = yes

|importance = mid
....
Sorry!!!   Fixed now I think. Seemed to be some code in the image-needed note. I'll investigate further. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 17:09, 20 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
Yes, it was a missing double brace from the code. Apologies again. Is everything else working okay? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 17:24, 20 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Portal Box

Education Task Force

edit

As someone mentioned way way above on the WikiProject California template, they have areas to where they have certain task force portions on the WikiProject template. I also saw this user Absolon above mention the part about the education part in the template. Could this be updated? I just finished creating and editing about 181 of the school district Wikipedia pages for Georgia Education. It'd be nice to have this feature updated so I can edit the talk pages once more. Thanks! Add code to WikiProject

edit

I would like to add the following code into the banner for the WikiProject of Georgia. I found a similar code from the New Jersey WikiProject.

|tf 1={{{education|}}}
|TF_1_LINK = Wikipedia:WikiProject_Georgia_(U.S._state)/Education
|TF_1_NAME = the Education task force
|TF_1_NESTED = Education
|TF_1_IMAGE = Books-aj.svg_aj_ashton_01e.svg
|TF_1_QUALITY = yes
|tf 1 importance     = {{{education-importance|}}}
|TF_1_ASSESSMENT_CAT = Education in Georgia articles
|TF_1_MAIN_CAT = Education in Georgia articles

Then I would need to add this code to the documentation on the WikiProject Georgia banner.

|education =
|education-importance =

With adding this text in the documentation, outside of the code, as well.

Task Force related parameters

education: Answer yes for articles under the scope of the Education task force

education-importance: Top, High, Mid, Low, NA. If blank, this will default as unknown importance.

proposal: change imageneeded parameter

edit

We have two general categories for images requested in Georgia:

The imageneeded parameter on this template adds the article to Category:Georgia (U.S. state) articles needing images. I propose that we modify the template to use Category:Wikipedia requested photographs in Georgia (U.S. state) instead, for consistency with the {{image requested}} template and the county-specific subcategories that the in= parameter uses. —Tim Pierce (talk) 20:36, 15 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

I agree. I thank like to add image needed on the banner. JJ98 (Talk / Contributions) 21:01, 17 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

New request

edit

{{edit protected}} I've added the Atlanta task force including some task forces and new parameters at Template:WikiProject Georgia (U.S. state)/sandbox which some of then were converted into task forces of WikiProject Georgia (U.S. state), like WikiProject Atlanta which went inactive, including the Education task force which started in 2008. I've also set QUALITY_SCALE to subpage to enable the class mask template, including the new FM-Class which is not used yet by the project. It is request if you could please make changes that I've made from the sandbox myself. Thank for your time. Regards, JJ98 (Talk / Contributions) 05:27, 18 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

AWESOME! I'm so happy that this is finally getting somewhere. Could you update the description variables in the template documentation page? To make it easier for other Wikipedians to know what fields they can edit? That would be great! Thanks for your hard work! Tamer_of_Hope talk 23:55, 18 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Image needed - State or county

edit

{{edit protected}} I have made a line change in Template:WikiProject Georgia (U.S. state)/sandbox so that if one or more in= parameter is set the request for an photo will not be duplicated in the parent state category as well as the county category. Note there are also other differences in the sandbox compared to the active template, not sure if they should be implemented or not? --Traveler100 (talk) 09:16, 8 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

I just copied the entire contents of the sandbox into the template. Please check it; if this wasn't what you wanted, just make an edit request to have me reverted. Nyttend (talk) 19:39, 20 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
