Redesign edit

Since the photo was one of mine anyway, I didn't feel bashful in changing it to one that's more recognizable at a small size. I also changed the color scheme to be less intense. I chose a color meant to resemble iron ore. Let me know what you think. --Dystopos 06:09, 1 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Nice picture. I'd been using skylines, but Birmingham's isn't really recognizable as such. (They can take forever to load too.) I'd wanted a pic of Vulcan, but the one in the article is such a long shot that it's unrecognizable at this scale.
This picture's white background makes the head-shot look like it's of a statue in a museum. Any way to update it to a sky blue?
The "Iron Ore" color is a great sentiment. Not sure that this specific color is the best. Perhaps one a little more red?
Thanks for taking the time to work on this.

The photo was taken while Vulcan's head was AT the museum, so it doesn't include his shoulders. I think if I made the background blue, not only would it just look like he was in a blue museum, but i'd have some problems with the edge of his outline looking rough. I will look at some iron ore next chance I get and try to refine the color. Red mountain ore has always looked a bit magenta-ish to me. --Dystopos 14:34, 1 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
There's a peach of a photo here about half-way down where they talk about the Century Plaza. It's a real rusty red seam of hematite. Others further down are equally so. Maybe these colors?
  • darkred #8b0000
  • maroon #800000

  • To me, both those are far too saturated and dark. That's a subjective opinion and I'd be willing to listen to input from more folks. --Dystopos 19:40, 1 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Agreed. I tried using white text in the main box, but the link stays blue so you can't see it at all with those colors. Maybe they could be in the ID box? How about this? MARussellPESE 18:43, 2 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
