Suggestions, re: since, template name/content edit

Hello! I've noticed that Wikipedia has recently been adding typhoon warning tables on the page for the 2020 Pacific typhoon season, so I decided to join WikiProject Tropical cyclones so that I can contribute.

I do have a few suggestions for this template. Hopefully the managers of this template can take notice.

since parameter edit

Since TCWS levels can change at any time, I'd like to propose a row of the table (possibly at the top of the table) that will be used to display when those storm signals were raised. I think that this would be helpful to those looking for recent announcements who stumbled upon Wikipedia (given that Wikipedia is one of the first suggested on web search sites), since they can identify if the information on the table is still up to date.

Possible template rename, or content change edit

If this template would really be a typhoon warning table, then it would be helpful if the definition of storm signals for other countries would be included, and not just the definitions by PAGASA.

If other countries are not to be included (or can't be included at the current moment), then I suggest that this template be renamed to something more accurate, such as PAGASA typhoon warnings table. Either way, I think the template really needs to be renamed due to the format of the name, which isn't standard with many other templates. Typhoon warnings table would be better than the current.

I'm open to your feedback regarding my suggestions, and I hope to hear from someone very soon! Have a nice day! Chlod (say hi!) 13:42, 15 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

After nearly a month, I've gone ahead and done the changes myself. If anyone can add more information about their own country's typhoon warning systems, that would be great!   Chlod (say hi!) 02:55, 12 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Color changes to PH warnings edit

I've changed the colors of the table to reflect the PAGASA signals colors instead. My reasoning behind this was:

  1. It is easier for residents of the Philippines to recognize these colors
  2. Only Philippine residents would care about the warnings for their areas, so it is perfectly reasonable to assume that the colors should cater to Philippine residents.

If you have any issues, please feel free to reply here or to revert my change. Chlod (say hi!) 16:16, 2 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Accessibility edit

The thought came into my mind after seeing an old discussion about the color of storm categories. After testing the new colors with a simulator, I've found that the colors work on almost all possible types of color blindness, with the exception of protanopia and tritanopia, which may show the colors for signal #5 and #1 or #5 and #3 as similar (though they are still discernible), respectively. With this, I'm sure that this passes MOS:ACCESSIBILITY. If there are any problems for those with color blindness, feel free to make a message here. Chlod (say hi!) 03:20, 3 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Wow, amazing! edit

This is awesome! Months ago, I was just browsing through older Wikipedia articles about typhoons that passed through the Philippines and yeah, I noticed that efforts have been made to add the highest TCWS raised. I was thinking that I should create a template for easier constructions of that table. And yet, here we are!

I just wanna say, this is amazing! Yivan000 (talk) 06:30, 3 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Request for template revision: Philippine TCWS#5 edit

Hello, @Chlod! I would like to request an edit or revision of the Template:TyphoonWarningsTable for the Philippine's tropical cyclone wind signals (TCWS), particularly TCWS #5. The phrase "Winds of over 185 km/h (115 mph)..." should be "Winds of 185 km/h (115 mph) or greater", i.e. TCWS#5 winds are ≥185 km/h (inclusive of 185 km/h), which is the actual definition of TCWS #5 as per PAGASA (references: 1 2). I've have made relevant edits to some articles containing this misphrasing and I noticed that the template also has the same mistake. Thank you very much! — Nairb.Idi9 (talk) 15:56, 21 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Nairb.Idi9:   Done with Special:Diff/1105746723. Thanks for your work! Chlod (say hi!) 16:01, 21 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
