Template talk:Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Kinda Big

edit

Don't you think the template is rather large? Perhaps it is possible to make it smaller? I mean, the size of the template is larger than some of the articles it links to! Many of the items in the template can be found in various lists. --Brandon Dilbeck 00:04, 6 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yeah I had the same thought, but I'm not quite sure how to cut it. I guess we could remove the secondary characters, that would save three lines. But beyond that, I'm not quite sure what we could do. I'm open to suggestions. -- Ritchy 01:07, 6 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
Well, you have to think how necessary the whole thing really is. Isn't it enough that all the articles are categorized? If I wanted to find a character, I could just search in the category of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles characters or something like that. I could see making a template for the major characters, but there just seems to be way too much to include everything that you put into the template. --Brandon Dilbeck 01:54, 6 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
Oh, I see you've cut it down a little now. That looks much less cumbersome. I think the big green lines made it look very large. --Brandon Dilbeck 01:57, 6 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Related article add

edit

I've added Usagi Yojimbo in the related article section, because Usagi has visited the TMNT universe, and vice versa. --Soetermans 22:59, 18 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

I've removed your edit for several reasons. First, you added it into the "franchise" section of the template, which is about out-of-universe information, not characters inside the TMNT universe. Second, while the character of Usagi did appear in some TMNT franchise, the page you linked to has nothing to do with the TMNT. Finally, while the character did appear occasionally, he was never a major character, unlike the Turtles, Splinter, April and Shredder, the characters who are linked to in the template.
I suggest you add Usagi to the List of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles characters. -- Ritchy 02:25, 19 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

You're right about the wrong section, but adding it into the list of TMNT characters wouldn't be correct, as Usagi Yojimbo is not a official character in the TMNT universe. I see no other way of adding it into the template. --Soetermans 08:19, 20 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

If, as you say, he's not a character in the TMNT universe, then he shouldn't be included in the TMNT template! At any rate, since he appeared in TMNT episodes and comics, I really don't see why he shouldn't be included in the List of TMNT Characters. His description on the page can make clear that he's a character from another universe that crossed over. -- Ritchy 13:45, 20 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Should we add Casey Jones to the template? He's popped up time and time again (in varying degrees of importance in each case), as well as three of the four movies. --Brandon Dilbeck 13:56, 20 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Needs more pictures

edit

Don't you think that you could add more copyleft pictures, say, from Google? That'd help get more pics in. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Urness.sam (talkcontribs) 15:19, 25 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

General cleanup

edit

I made various changes to this navbox a few months ago that were almost all reverted. No reason was given for the reversion, so I am proposing the changes here so that other users have opportunity to give their input. Here is what the navbox would look like if I were to impliment the changes:

The "Foot Clan" link is moved to the "Characters" section because the Foot Clan is a group of characters. The character list link is a direct link to the list rather than a link to a redirect so that the link will be bolded on that article. The four main character links are included at the beginning of the two lines of character links rather than on a line unto themselves so that the navbox is not lengthened unnecessarily. The other reason is that "main characters" is a contentious term; April, Splinter, and Shredder may or may not also be considered main characters. The repetition of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" and inconsistent alternation with "TMNT" is removed from the "Comics" line for those reasons: unnecessary repetition and inconsistency. The repetition of "TV" in the "Television" section is also removed. Finally, the links to episode lists are shortened to the word "episode" partially because this is standard practice on navboxes and partially because there is no reason to repeat two words when one will do. Any input on these changes would be greatly appreciated. Neelix (talk) 19:09, 25 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Most are pretty good, I'd say, but I really do think some off setting of the Turtles themselves, as the title characters, is needed. I do agree that April, Splinter, Shredder and Casey are a cut above other characters, but , but they're not the title characters. That was my main concern. As for the comics section, I thought using the full title for Tales, which does use the "TMNT" abbreviation, was appropriate, but I'm not wedded to the idea. oknazevad (talk) 22:28, 25 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for the clarification! I've reformatted the navbox with all the changes already mentioned except the merging of primary and secondary characters into one section. I have also encoded the separation of these two sections into the navbox and moved the "appearances" link to the side because it pertains to both the primary and secondary characters. Please add Casey Jones to the "Other" category.

Casey Jones the Movie is the first highly praised TMNT-related fan film, similar in acclaim to 'Batman: Dead End' and 'Grayson' for Batman.

The film is available to view online at www.caseyjonesthemovie.com and has been reviewed by many TV and internet reviewers; one of the most prominent being MTV Geek (http://geek-news.mtv.com/2011/09/19/tmnts-casey-jones-gets-a-very-gritty-fan-film/)

Thank you.

WP:COLOR compliance

edit

Oknazevad - Do you have any suggestions for making this template WP:COLOR compliant. COLOR is not optional so we need to come to some sort of agreement on colors. EvergreenFir (talk) Please {{re}} 03:26, 23 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

I don't see how it is not already, honestly. Using the tools provided at WP:COLOR, the shades from the current version of the navbox (the ones I restored), and the color values of the standard Wikipedia blue links (both regular and followed), it is compliant. I just thought the green shades you chose were far too garish and and actively eye-straining. Really, it physically hurt to look at them. as the previous shades do fit the guideline, I see no reason to change them. oknazevad (talk) 03:44, 23 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
@Oknazevad: The contrast between #89D33C   (the main green color) and #0645AD   (an unvisited link, the color of the text in the title of the template) is 4.64:1. The contrast ratio between #C2E23D   and #0645AD   is 5.78. It needs to be at least 7.00:1 to be AAA compliant. You can use http://dasplankton.de/ContrastA/ to verify this. Per WP:COLOR, AAA should be achieved when feasible, and aesthetics are not sufficient reason for infeasibility. One option to make the colors I chose less garish is to decrease their saturation. Another is to choose other colors. EvergreenFir (talk) Please {{re}} 03:50, 23 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
Actually, I can't, as it's a Flash-based website, which my browser does not support. However, the Snook's Colour Guide linked to at WP:COLOR actually gives contrary results, stating the color combos to be AAA-compliant. Which means one of the sites is incorrect. If it's the Snook's site, then it should be removed from the guideline.
Reducing saturation would actually likely wind up with similar colors to what are here. As for choosing other colors, per WP:Link color, we shouldn't change the blues, and frankly, this navbox needs to be some shade(s) of green. No other colors would be appropriate at all. oknazevad (talk) 04:00, 23 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
@Oknazevad: Snook gives the same results. See here and here. They fail AAA and the contrast is still under 7.0. I agree we can't change the link color and I would also like to use green... question is which ones... I'm totally open to suggestions here. Just want this to be COLOR compliant. Sorry if I'm being a pain in the ass. EvergreenFir (talk) Please {{re}} 04:11, 23 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
Hm, strange. As that appears to be the case, let's see what a reduction of saturation would look like. oknazevad (talk) 04:39, 23 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

@Oknazevad: Pardon my delay in replying. How about changing  89D33C  to  CDF89F  and  C2E23D  to  DEF388 ? Saturation alone wasn't sufficient, so I increased the values a bit too. I tried to keep them from being too garish. The result would be:

EvergreenFir (talk) Please {{re}} 20:33, 27 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Looks okay. I wouldn't mind a little darker at the top, but that might be too dark in contrast. Go with it. oknazevad (talk) 00:00, 28 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
@Oknazevad: I tried to get it darker, but to do so it washes out the green. This was the best I could do to get the green visible enough and make it COLOR compliant. I'll go ahead and implement it. Cheers! EvergreenFir (talk) Please {{re}} 15:36, 28 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Rise of the Turtles

edit

Shouldn't Rise of the Turtles be placed somewhere? J 1982 (talk) 18:06, 9 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

I don't really see the need. I don't even really see the need for a separate article. It's just the opening two-parter of season 1. Material about it can be covered in that season article or, where generally appropriate for the entire series, the main series article. It just doesn't strike me as having sufficient independent notability, to be honest. oknazevad (talk) 18:32, 9 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Please stop adding multiple links to the same articles, or sections of the same articles. Each article should only be linked once. A navbox is not for navigating between sections of the same article, but between different articles. --Rob Sinden (talk) 15:39, 9 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
