From the recent TFD, there was a suggestion to convert this template from a disambiguation template to a WP:SETINDEX template.
A set index is like a disambiguation page, in that it lists a group of topics with the same or highly similar names, from the same topic area, in this case, the topic area is taxonomy. Set index articles can and do contain redlinks, whereas disambiguations pages cannot contain redlinks.
The most common example of a set index is the ship index articles, such as HMS Intrepid, which use the {{shipindex}} template.
