The taxonomy currently used on the Texas rat snake page has the species listed as (Elaphe obsoletus lindheimeri). My edit request is to update the species taxonomy with the current updated taxonomy which has the Texas rat snake listed as part of the western rat snake genus which is Pantherophis obsoletus(lindheimeri). The subspecies 'lindheimeri' is still widely recognized in the herpetilogical community as the taxonomy and nomenclature of the new world rat snake species is in a frequent state of updating. The reason is new world rat snakes which were previously thought to be closely related to old world rat snakes but recent studies of their phylogenetics have suggested that new world rat snakes are more closely related to king snakes(Lampropeltis sp.). In short I would like to edit the species from 'Elaphe' to 'Pantherophis' Jsouthern487 (talk) 02:11, 25 December 2021 (UTC)
