I would like to add military vehicles to the #switch, which would link Category:Set indices on military vehicles. wumbolo ^^^ 12:42, 11 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

Set indices on newspapers edit

I tried and apparently failed to create Category:Set indices on newspapers‎. There are several 'disambiguation' pages that are more appropriately SIAs: for instance Star (newspaper), Evening Star (newspaper), List of newspapers named Bee, and some others at Category:Lists of newspapers. Ideally, the template {{SIA|newspaper}} would categorize correctly. How do I avoid articles going into Category:Wikipedia disambig or set index box parameter needs fixing (e.g. Evening Star (newspaper), currently)? Thanks, --Animalparty! (talk) 22:15, 14 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

Fixed Added "newspapers" to the list of acceptable SIAs in the template. —hike395 (talk) 23:36, 14 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

Please add "Ukraine" and "populated places in Ukraine" into allowed parameter list; see Category:Set indices on Ukraine, populated manually. Please ping me when done, I will edit the articles accordingly. Staszek Lem (talk) 19:53, 12 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Add chemistry category. I made the necessary code change in the sandbox just now (diff). Tested and it seemed to work. Colin M (talk) 17:45, 4 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Short description edit

I suggest adding an automatic short description to this template as was done with {{Disambiguation}}. My proposed description is "Index of articles associated with the same name" or "Index of articles associated with the name {{PAGENAME}}" similar to "index of enzymes associated with the same name" used by {{Enzyme index}}. Like when a short description was added to disambiguation pages following this discussion all templates in Category:Set index article templates should get an automatic short description. This description can of course be overridden by adding another instance of {{Short description}} if a human have a better description.

I have notified WT:WPLIST, WT:SIA, Template talk:Disambiguation and WT:WPSHORTDESC of this proposal. ‑‑Trialpears (talk) 19:32, 13 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

So to take the usual example, the set index article List of peaks named Signal is proposed to have one of the two following short descriptions:
  • "Index of articles associated with the same name"; or
  • "Index of articles associated with the name List of peaks named Signal"
I'm in favour of the first suggestion, but wouldn't entertain the second one. --RexxS (talk) 23:13, 13 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
We could do some processing on the pagename to make sure it make sense grammatically, but yeah I doubt it will be worth it. ‑‑Trialpears (talk) 19:26, 14 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
I've added the short description "Index of articles associated with the same name". ‑‑Trialpears (talk) 10:23, 17 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
"Where there is no useful short description possible, leave it out." WP:SHORTDESC. Defining "set index article" isn't a description of any given set index article. -- JHunterJ (talk) 19:27, 4 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

No set indices on people? edit

At Ahitub, I tried {{SIA|people}}, and nothing happened. If I drop the argument, I do get the overall category. Is this a bug or an undocumented feature? Paradoctor (talk) 00:06, 13 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Categories renamed edit

Categories were renamed from "set indices" or "set index pages" to "set index articles", see Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2022_September_14#Category:Set_indices. A few which used this template but were not listed there were moved summarily under WP:G6. The remainder are being speedily moved.

@UnitedStatesian: which pages or category names are still giving a problem? I have belatedly fixed those that were categorised as animalia. – Fayenatic London 18:48, 26 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Fayenatic london: understood, thanks. I fixed the only one that was a problem. Sorry my reflexive bad revert caused issues for you. UnitedStatesian (talk) 18:59, 26 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
OK, Special:WantedCategories shows no others now. Category:Set indices will empty itself again in due course. – Fayenatic London 19:00, 26 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Titles of nobility edit

There's a Category:Set index articles on titles of nobility that was populated by Charles Matthews, but all the instances are manually categorised, and the category is not supported by this template. Charles, I think adding support in the template for auto-categorisation of such pages would be in line with your original intention? --Paul_012 (talk) 13:29, 12 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

(Also, why is there no mention in the template documentation of what accepted parameters there are?) --Paul_012 (talk) 13:30, 12 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Paul 012: Sounds OK to me. Charles Matthews (talk) 16:44, 12 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Add "titles of nobility" to the switch, per the preceding section. Paul_012 (talk) 17:16, 12 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Please add Belarus to the list of allowable parameters. Belarus suffers from the same nameplace homonymy as Russa, see eg Barawlyany.- Altenmann >talk 19:10, 7 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
