Template talk:Scottish football updater

End of season

Just in the process of updating for the end of the SPFL teams (I'll wait till the play-off match is finished before publishing) but I thought we should add a wee end of season note so that the leagues are consistently updated at a similar time of year. I feel that this would be a good starting point:
"DO NOT update before the end of the season. The end of the season for senior leagues is considered as the conclusion of the Scottish Cup OR the Premiership play-offs, whichever is later. The end of the season for junior leagues is considered as the conclusion of the Junior Cup OR the final league match within the region (i.e. West/East/North Region), whichever is later."

I'd say there's no problem updating individual leagues as they finish, as otherwise impatient editors (particularly IPs) will remove the updater and put in the finishing positions. However, this should be noted against each league (see how I've done it at {{English football updater}}). Where promotion/relegation is certain, again I'd say there's no problem updating the new division once the season has finished. However, for leagues that need the SFA or an AGM to confirm their lineup, these should be left until then. Cheers, Number 57 14:19, 20 May 2018 (UTC)

The complication in Scotland this year is that it seems like a lot of junior clubs will move into the senior leagues (mostly into the East of Scotland Football League). I'm not sure if that has all been finalised yet in terms of how the leagues will be structured next season. Jmorrison230582 (talk) 14:25, 20 May 2018 (UTC)

I'd update the leagues as they finish in terms of finishing positions, but don't change their current division until the league linesups are announced (that's how I've been doing it on the English one). Number 57 14:39, 20 May 2018 (UTC)

Agree with Number57, as long as everything in one league is finishing and confirmed for next then it can be updated - that's why I updated the HL/LL. I was going to do L1/L2 as well but never got round to it. EoS is a special case - I updated the current teams, but of course we need to wait until next season's teams are confirmed plus the Juniors aren't finished yet. Viewing code to correct errors

I am wondering if there is any way for other users to be able to access the database that feeds this template to correct errors and allow for a full roll-out over all Wikipedia football club page? Dreamweaverjack (talk) 05:00, 30 June 2018 (UTC)

I think Jack was assuming that the info in the template is copied from an external source. However, it's manually input by Wikipedia editors. Number 57 12:56, 30 June 2018 (UTC)

2019-20 season

Given it looks unlikely for any more football to be played this season, and with some leagues already come to an end, how do we represent the situation of finishing positions for each club? And how soon should the template be updated, as I've seen some clubs pages changed individually by impatient editors already.

• PPG - used so far by the SPFL, Lowland to award titles and decide relegation, presumably this extends to all positions?

• Null and void - used so far by the East Juniors, should the finishing positions just be the one clubs were in when it ended, or should null and void be indicated?

• Highland League voted for the champions but didn't mention PPG for the rest of the league, so I've just used the finishing positions.

The West Juniors have abandoned the season as well so there's no champion there either. I'd use the points per game method to represent the finishing positions of the teams in the Championship, League One, League Two and the Lowland League because that's what they've used. That would essentially mean the same format as we've used in previous seasons. Same for the Highland League but use the finishing table as they've used (i.e. total points rather points per game). For the Juniors that have been abandoned, I'd just put the league and (abandoned) after it because they can't have a finishing position if the season hasn't ended. For the English non-league leagues that are null and void, I've just put "season abandoned". I don't think we can put finishing positions where are technically none. Number 57 11:33, 21 April 2020 (UTC)

I've updated all the divisions (apart from the Premiership) using PPG except where null & void in the SoS, East and North Juniors. Awaiting updates on the make-up of the EOS First Division conferences and the East Juniors structure. I did notice someone individually updated the Highland League clubs to say "TBA" as the HL hasn't said what's happening to positions outside of the champions.Boothy m (talk) 18:20, 13 May 2020 (UTC)
