Addition of symbols for West Midlands transport

Hi there, any chance you could add this code to the template? It's for the West Midlands county in the UK. Thanks.

Code

 | bus | red =
 | cycle | cycle hire | green =

 | rail | railway | trains | orange =

Description of suggested change: Please change Metrovalencia's line listing to include the new Line 10, opened as of 2022. For a working testcase with this code, please see this testcase. The svg image is already existing and only one line needs to be added within the template as follows. I would have added the proposed lines 11, 12, and 14, but I cannot find any source saying whether the icon colors displayed on Spanish Wikipedia are final or official, so I will bide my time.

Thank you!

Meanwhile could you show in the sandbox, or at least explain further, exactly what you want done with the B, B1 and B2 lines, as well as the TF, TF1 and TF2 lines? That would be a big help. P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'er there 17:57, 22 June 2023 (UTC)
I updated somethings. However, I couldn't add separate icons for B1, B2, TF1 and TF2 so as not to mess up the template. You can use this files for it.

Revert changes to Edmonton Capital Line and Valley Line icons at Template:Rail-interchange/doc/CA. Small "1" and "5" numbers are present inside the circles, but these lines are not referred to by number. 162 etc. (talk) 05:53, 27 August 2023 (UTC)

Aha, I see what happened... These circles were actually just copied from the Montreal Metro's icons; those lines are now referred to by both colour and number, and the image files have been updated.
Perhaps an editor with a bit of technical knowledge can help here. ETS' website [2] shows the colours as #4895D0 (Capital), #DB1E32 (Metro), and #2B6A3B (Valley). Unfortunately, the circles used on the website are not in an easily copied file format (Javascript?) We'd therefore need 3 new image files to be uploaded (small circles in these colours) and then added to the Rail-interchange template. Any help is appreciated! 162 etc. (talk) 07:19, 28 August 2023 (UTC)

Template-protected edit request on 11 November 2023

For Toronto, please add the newly-confirmed symbol for Line 3 Ontario (Ontario Line). This is addition to the already included symbol for the now closed Line 3 Scarborough, which is a very different shade of blue. The new symbol image is file:

TTC - Line 3 - Scarborough RT line.svg

The old Line 3 symbol (TTC - Line 3 - Scarborough RT line.svg) should remain for that former line in a different part of the city.

I've never done this before, so hopefully this is the right way to ask!   Nfitz (talk) 02:33, 11 November 2023 (UTC)

@Nfitz normally we would want testcases and a proposed change in the sandbox. This one's a little tricky given the reuse of "3". I'll work on this. Mackensen (talk) 03:27, 11 November 2023 (UTC)
Thanks! I looked at how to do that, and decided it was outside my skill set. Yeah, the colour change is a surprise; something to do with green-blue colour blindness apparently. Nfitz (talk) 03:48, 11 November 2023 (UTC)
Can you please drop a link confirming the change? Thanks. Mackensen (talk) 03:50, 11 November 2023 (UTC)
@Mackensen It's linked in the File:TTC_-_Line_3_-_Ontario_line.svg - It's part the Metrolinx development application in the 60% Review Signage and Wayfinding plan and drawings set (confusingly named as supporting document "Plans and Drawings". Nfitz (talk) 18:52, 11 November 2023 (UTC)
@Nfitz   Done This is available now via the ontario key ( ). Let's hold off on replacing 3 until the naming becomes more official. Mackensen (talk) 19:32, 11 November 2023 (UTC)
Yes, the old 3 should remain as it is for some time! Thanks! Nfitz (talk) 20:18, 11 November 2023 (UTC)
I just noticed that User:Joeyconnick reverted this without commenting here because it was unsourced. I've reverted back as the sourcing was discussed in this thread. @Mackensen Nfitz (talk) 17:06, 20 November 2023 (UTC)
Yeah so next time it would be useful (required, even) to actually provide a source someone else can find as per WP:V in the edit summaries where the new info is being added. Even now, I've had to check your edit summary reverting me AND here to piece together it can be found at:
such as A9513 - page 4 of the 60% wayfinding design (confusingly named as supporting document "Plans and Drawings")Joeyconnick (talk) 20:54, 20 November 2023 (UTC)
@Joeyconnick thanks, I didn't realize that sources would be expected in this case. That's a good idea, if unusual. Adding sources can be added directly to the documentation for Module:Adjacent stations/Toronto Transit Commission might help reinforce that expectation; see Module:Adjacent stations/ÖBB for an example of this being done. Mackensen (talk) 21:01, 20 November 2023 (UTC)
Given how in advance we are of the line even being built, and the lack (as far as I can tell) of any wide announcement that it actually will take on the number 3 and this purple colour, I think very clear sources are especially warranted. If there had been some kind of big press release where you could google "Ontario Line" and the news was in the top 5 search results, then I probably would have thought, "Hmn... okay, not really the best way of adding this but it's hard to dispute." But there wasn't... this information is very hard to find unless someone points you right at it. The person presenting it even said that it was "confusingly named", so if we're relying on it as the only rationale for making changes, it's on us to make it really clear what we're basing those changes on.
People make up all sorts of stuff about transit all the time based on rumour and heresay and non-reliable railfan websites, so without clear sourcing, we have to assume it's wishful thinking.
Anyway, yeah, never a bad thing to provide more or clearer sources. —Joeyconnick (talk) 05:01, 21 November 2023 (UTC)
@Joeyconnick one of the my edits you reverted clearly had a link. Let's stick to the point, rather than a meta-discussion of how we got here. Nfitz (talk) 21:14, 20 November 2023 (UTC)
There's nothing "meta" about this: the whole reason we're having this part of the debate is because, in your edits, you didn't provide clear sourcing... you only referred to here, the discussion where the sourcing is evident, long after I reverted you. The description in that edit summary you refer to above is wholly insufficient to figure out the document you are referring to is actually called "Plans and Drawings", out of at least a dozen documents, and it's multi-page to boot. No one could be reasonably expected to find the specific document (let alone the page in the 47 MB files) without the information that is also here in this discussion which, again, is not referred to in the edit summary where you made additions. Even a link to this Talk page discussion would have helped.
Really we should not be acting on something so deeply buried in planning documents at all—we should wait for an official announcement from the TTC or Metrolinx, etc. Using planning documents about signage is incredibly tenuous and there is no rush to add all this for a line that will not be completed until the end of this decade at the earliest. But you know, why care about WP:CRYSTAL, right? —Joeyconnick (talk) 04:51, 21 November 2023 (UTC)
I'm with Joey on this one, and I'm honestly uncertain as to whether this shade of purple is intended long-term. Much of the other items in that document are in a transitional state; its purpose is to show how the wayfinding will be displayed, not the symbols themselves. Plus, this purple is quite similar to Line 4's, and the Scarborough blue makes sense for this use case. I'd really want to see the purple 3 used somewhere else, that is more definitive, before embracing it here. Radagast (talk) 13:00, 21 November 2023 (UTC)
Maybe the exact shade is somewhat tenuous - but that it's numbered Line 3 has been publicized many a time, and the number '3' is a lot clearer than the previous icon. The shade can be tweaked in about 20 seconds if necessary. It certainly reflects the most recent information - which has now been reviewed by Metrolinx. Nfitz (talk) 20:59, 26 November 2023 (UTC)
Are you sure this document "has now been reviewed by Metrolinx"? The application contains this document is still in a "Application Circulated" milestone status and "Under Review" application status as shown on the website you've given in your first edit summary. So I think whether this document will coming into effect is still controversial, and I don't think a controversial document can be a reliable source. --—and in that light, Fz20181223 find deliverance.— 23:02, 30 November 2023 (UTC)

Would you mind attending to this request then? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 22:38, 24 November 2023 (UTC)

@TheTrolleyPole @Blaixx @Joeyconnick Refactored the streetcar routes using actual icons from the route map. Puts them on a similar footing with the subway lines. Thoughts? Mackensen (talk) 01:31, 25 November 2023 (UTC)
I don't understand "refactored the streetcar routes using actual icons from the route map". Does this affect route templates such as Template:501 Queen? I was asking the administrator to modify rint so that toronto correctly shows in Template:501 Queen. TheTrolleyPole (talk) 00:41, 26 November 2023 (UTC)
He means he created indidividual route icons for the streetcar routes like there are for the subway lines.
e.g.   (generated using toronto)
weirdly I can't make toronto work:
All are visible at Module:Adjacent stations/Toronto Transit Commission/doc
I don't think I'm partial... are these accessible? The example above looks way too small to read, for instance. —Joeyconnick (talk) 02:17, 26 November 2023 (UTC)
These aren't live in production yet, but Toronto Transit Commission   gives an example of the output. The size can be adjusted--the 16 pixel size you're seeing is the default intended for the subway lines. The streetcars need 24. Alt text can be passed through the template. The icon is wrapped in a link that sets a title attribute, which is accessible. The alternative text can be overridden if necessary. Mackensen (talk) 13:42, 26 November 2023 (UTC)
When implemented, would the rint template automatically show the new icon, or would many manual changes be required? I believe manual changes would be required, for example, in Template:506 Carlton: toronto (   504   505 ); another example would be in the infobox in Long Branch Loop. The font in   still seems somewhat small compared to    501 . TheTrolleyPole (talk) 19:27, 26 November 2023 (UTC)
Yes, manual changes would be required, in that the first icon is rendered using rint and the second one isn't. The icon is an SVG, so it can be increased to any desired size. Rint isn't necessary at all, of course, rail icon invokes the adjacent stations modules and can be used directly. Mackensen (talk) 20:20, 26 November 2023 (UTC)

Description of suggested change: The addition of Ontario Northland to the Ontario section as discussed on the /ca talk page. I have uploaded a wayfinding logo to commons in the same method as those for VIA and GO among others:

It would be good to subdivide into two entries, one with the logo and a bus icon, linking to Ontario Northland Motor Coach Services, and one with the logo and a train icon given the re-instatement of the Northlander train by 2026. The parent would link to Ontario Northland. An option to have both rail and bus visible would be helpful as well.

Just learning, so this is my first request! Cheers. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Millsy0303 (talkcontribs) 03:29, 18 December 2023 (UTC)

Description of suggested change: DMTCL officially published the color codes of Dhaka Metro Rail lines here and it needs to be updated, as made in this sandbox edit and displayed according to this sandbox and this testcase (Note - MRT Line 3 doesn’t exist that's why it was removed).

Edit request March 25 2024 (HS2)

Hi there, was wondering if you could edit the template to add the following:

| hs2 =

Could you also add the same under the section for 'gb' (I believe it should go just below 'glasgow', assuming it's in alphabetical order).

I've run the test cases and they look fine.

Thanks in advance. Oldhamtw (talk) 13:01, 25 March 2024 (UTC)

I assume you're wanting this to show a service? There is none at the moment that I am aware of. These icons usually show indications of service providers, not the infrastructure over which they operate their services. As HS2 is yet to be completed, there is, as yet, no service provider. Another example is the Elizabeth line: as a service, it has an icon ( ), but the Crossrail infrastructure over which it runs does not. Bazza 7 (talk) 19:56, 25 March 2024 (UTC)
The service (not yet started) also goes by the name HS2, unlike the Elizabeth Line/Crossrail distinction. They might well rename the service at a later date, but currently the service and the infrastructure share the name 'HS2'. The confusion is understandable given the uncertainty over how the service will actually run.[3] Oldhamtw (talk) 15:05, 27 March 2024 (UTC)
Any update on this? The icon would be helpful in routemaps showing what's under construction in certain areas (for example, in the West Midlands, there's a metro line under construction where certain stops will interchange with standard rail (with   and  ), some with a bus interchange (with  ), etc. For clarity and consistency's sake, it would really help to have the icon as well.
