Template talk:Platonists

Welcome to the Platonists Template. Feel free to discuss (or make) any changes to make this thing better. I tried not to include too many philosophers who are just short stub articles, but it is possible that I may have missed someone important. Singinglemon (talk) 02:22, 4 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Diotima of Mantinea

edit

I've twice had to remove Diotima of Mantinea from this template. Firstly, she does not belong to the Platonists of the Middle Academy. She did not live at the time of Arcesilaus and Lacydes, and she was not an Academic skeptic. Secondly, I'm baffled as to how she could be called a Platonist - I know of no evidence that she was a student of Plato, or that she studied in the Academy. This, afterall, is what this template is about. Adding Diotima to the Academics would be like adding Parmenides, Cratylus, or indeed Socrates. She might belong on a Socrates template I suppose. Origen

edit

Should Origen be included here among the neoplatonists?

This is a genuine question. I'm not knowledgeable enough to know if he should be added, but it seems that a lot of his theology is adapted from neoplatonic metaphysics. It also seems that he was a student of Ammonius Saccas. So this is why I'm asking. Rafael Calsaverini (talk) 14:27, 1 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
