Maximilian Kolbe

edit

He should be moved from the section "Germany" to "Poland". Judging by where "108 Martyrs of World War Two" are placed, the articles are arranged according to the place of martyrdom and the nationality of the martyrs -- and while St. Maximilian's father may have been an ethnic German, the son was Polish, and may have even not speak German. 89.231.100.9 (talk) 20:54, 18 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

'May have even not speak [sic] German'? As a writer, editor, intellectual and political activist in prewar Poland, Fr Kolbe certainly knew German and was most likely perfectly fluent. There was no Poland when he died, so his death can't be blamed on Poland. He died in Greater Germany, under German occupation, in a German camp. Sallieparker (talk) 16:39, 7 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

But the persecution of Kolbe was not that of the "Church". History2007 (talk) 18:24, 1 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Reduction of size

edit

As discussed during the Tfd, this template's title is about the persecution of "the Church", not specific individuals such as St. Maximilian above who was persecuted, but mostly for providing shelter to refugees against the Nazis. So that is not a topic for this template. So let us discuss what drops out and reasons for each deletion. Thanks. History2007 (talk) 18:59, 24 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

I was away for a while, sorry for delay.
If this is to remain in sidebar format, I would remove 'all the individuals, and leave only dozen or so links to main articles. Roughly, only the top 9 (before the "Mexico" subsection, and maybe a few selected from below). In total, no more than some 15-20 links. I suggest:
Anti-Catholicism‎
Historical persecution of Christians
Vatican and Eastern Europe 1846-1958
Catholic Church persecutions 1939-1958
Eradication of Church under Stalinism
Eastern Catholic persecutions
Between world wars: "Terrible Triangle"
Conspiracy of Silence under Nazism
Persecution of Christians in Mexico
Red Terror (Spain)
Pope Pius XII and China

I agree that "most" individuals need to be ignored, but I have not checked them all to see if anyone is an exception. I suggest increasing your suggested list by 4 or 5 more major items and let us be done with it. History2007 (talk) 15:45, 11 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
This template is rather "inmature" and should be fixed in terms of selection as representation of the topic it aims to convey. Chicbyaccident (talk) 14:29, 16 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

20th century to 20th-century

edit

Would there be any objection to moving this template to Template:20th-century persecutions of the Catholic Church? Since 20th and century are working together as a compound adjective before the noun persecutions, it should be hyphenated. I've never moved a template so I don't know if Template:20th century persecutions of the Catholic Church would remain as a redirect to the new title. If need be, I'll go through the What links here and make the fixes. If there's a consensus, or at least no objection, I'll make the move in about a week. Thank you. Template enlarged

edit

This template has now been enlarged with the aim to include an overview of all persecutions. Please feel free to improve in any ways. Chicbyaccident (talk) 19:48, 27 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Question

edit

Is this a template for persecution of Catholics, by Catholics, or both? –Zfish118talk 15:33, 17 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

JFK inclusion under United States

edit

Is there any reason JFK is included under the "United States" section of the template? as far as I know, there is no evidence that Kennedy's Catholicity (lacking as it was) contributed to his killing Maximilian775 (talk) 18:58, 9 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Yeah that's just silly (though there was anti-Catholic propaganda disseminated during Kennedy's run). I'll add in some real instances of anti-Catholicism. ~ Pbritti (talk) 19:03, 9 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
