Template talk:Orkney-stub

The problem with the IOC image is that it is copyrighted and policy prevents such images to be used in stub templates. If people prefer not to use the image I've added we must either 1) find a free version of the other image (if such a copy exists?), 2) use something entirely different, e.g. a map?, 3) avoid a stub image altogether. I propose that Image:Flag of the Isles of Orkney (Official).JPG is used in this template in preference over the unofficial version

An svg version of the new flag is available, for use in the template Image:New Official Orkney Flag.svg. AxG ҈ ^►talk_►guests 11:24, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

Agree in principle, but based on Rab-k's edits, it looks like image:New Official Orkney Isles Flag.PNG is the one with the official ratio, so perhaps the .svg needs modification? Anyway, the author will have to fix the copyright status of the .svg. I've dropped him a note. Valentinian ^{T / C} 11:52, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

Note that the "new" Orkney flag has not yet been approved by the Lord Lyon King of Arms, therefore it is no more "official" than the previous flag. For the time being, therefore, the previous flag (which is widely used in the isles) should continue to be used.

Proposed edit to text

I see there's been an edit war been "Orkney, UK", and "Orkney, Scotland". Do we have to phone up the Scottish parliament and check if they've seceded, or can the latter text be reinstated now? Alai 23:30, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

Just Orkney seems fine to me. There will be enough context on the stub page that it won't be confusing. CMummert · talk 02:37, 13 April 2007 (UTC)
