Edit Request December 13, 3018
editThis edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
I'm requesting that the live version be replaced by the sandbox version (see Template:ON former/testcases) and Template:ON former/image be deleted under WP:CSD#G7. The sandbox version uses Module:Jcon, which allows for 2A to have an icon displayed and puts all code relating to Ontario icons in one place (Module:Jcon). I'm also requesting that in Template:ON former/doc all occurrences of {{ON former|previous=536}}
be replaced with {{ON former|next=536}}
as in the sandbox, this template is used in an example with highway 535, and 536 > 535. I'm unable to perform this edit due to restrictions. – BrandonXLF (t@lk) 01:35, 14 December 2018 (UTC) (Revised – BrandonXLF (t@lk) 01:50, 17 December 2018 (UTC))
- If this template is also a part of the restrictions mentioned in another template's talk page, until there is a better mechanism to notify editors, would it be possible for you to link to the other discussion which pertains to your TB and/or describe briefly each time you make an ER what the nature of the restrictions are (for the benefit of uninvolved editors) so that each instance where you choose to invoke the ER template, other editors aren't having to circle back in order to get the information which they need in order to help you to make these edits. Also, in the sequences of Highways 534, 535, 537 and 538 — where is Highway 536? It appears to be missing in the sequence. Thank you Spintendo 16:25, 15 December 2018 (UTC)
- @Spintendo: The sequence should be fixed. For the notice, I'll try to remember to include that. – BrandonXLF (t@lk) 03:34, 16 December 2018 (UTC)
- Not done: According to the page's protection level you should be able to edit the page yourself. If you seem to be unable to, please reopen the request with further details. SD0001 (talk) 10:08, 21 December 2018 (UTC)
- Note: @SD0001: BrandonXLF is unable to edit directly into the Template and Module namespaces due to restrictions in place. He is allowed to edit sandboxes, testcases and propose changes via edit requests that need reviewed by editors who can edit these templates and have the knowledge to implement the requested changes. I'm switching this request back to {{Request edit}} since it is unprotected to avoid confusion again. Alucard 16❯❯❯ chat? 11:41, 21 December 2018 (UTC)
- @BrandonXLF: Based on your user rights I would recommend for future requests to use {{request edit}} for all template related requests except for the ones that are template protected or higher. This will avoid your requests getting accidentally closed out by other editors who may think you can edit these templates based on your user rights. I personally see nothing wrong with the proposed changes and would implement them. I just don't have adequate knowledge of templates outside of very small changes. This is why I haven't taken any action on this request. Alucard 16❯❯❯ chat? 11:50, 21 December 2018 (UTC)
- The problem with listing it under
{{request edit}}
is that editors who monitor that template specialize in conflicts of interest, while the editors who monitor the template edit-restricted variant specialize in templates. SD0001 declined the request saying that brandon should be able to edit the template themselves based on their user level. I can't help but think if SD0001 knew that Brandon was restricted from editing based on a TBAN, they would understand that Brandon is essentially being temporarily re-placed in the same level as anyone else is who unable to edit a template based on their number of edits. So when SD0001 says that Brandon can edit the template based on their user level, they are not exactly correct. I'm all for expanding the{{request edit}}
template's usage, but in the case of internal templates, it makes more sense to have template-specialists looking at this, even if it requires them to view those making the requests with a TBAN as equivalent to those unable to make the change themselves. SD0001's reply message stated that if Brandon is still unable to edit the request, that he shouldreopen the request with further details
(meaning the{{edit template-protected}}
variant). I think that is what should be done here. Spintendo 13:35, 21 December 2018 (UTC)

- Done I am sorry for my oversight. I didn't make it to the last sentence of the initial request before noting that the page was under no protection. Seeing that this has been open for about a week and there have been no objections, I am assuming a consensus per WP:SILENCE and have made the requested changes, without prejudice to reversion by any editor. - @SD0001: OMG, I forgot to make the sandbox use the live module! Please change the invokes from Template:ON former to use the live version of the module (no /sandbox). – BrandonXLF (t@lk) 20:44, 21 December 2018 (UTC)
- And while you're at it you might as well add {{lua|Module:Jcon}} to the documentation. – BrandonXLF (t@lk) 20:47, 21 December 2018 (UTC)
