  Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 22:14, 9 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Usage in sports competition files

edit

I've used this template in about 500 files lately. I always wrote the "Use=Infobox" parameter there, but only now I realized that I was making a mistake: The "Use=Infobox" parameter cannot be used for sports competition logos. What now? Should I rewrite it all to "Use=Other" and add the "Purpose" parameter with several detailed sentences? ... It would be great if we could add another option for the "Use" parameter: "Use=Sport" or "Use=Competition" or something similar. Maiō T. (talk) 11:03, 28 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Okay, since no one is against, I think I could add the following code into the template:

  |Sport event=The image is placed in the article discussing {{#if:{{{Used for|}}}
   |{{{Used for}}}
   |{{{Article}}}
  }}, a subject of public interest. The significance of the {{{Type|logo}}} is to help the reader identify the sport event, assure the readers that they have reached the right article containing critical commentary about the sport event, and illustrate the sport event's intended branding message in a way that words alone could not convey.

User:Salavat, this topic might interest you too. What do you think about it? We wouldn't have to write long codes in the {{Non-free use rationale logo}}, but one parameter (Use=Sport event) would be enough. Maiō T. (talk) 17:05, 15 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

  • I think "Event" might work as a more general term than competition, that way it can also apply to music concerts, festivals, etc. I have been using this as my default for events and competitions for a while so it would be a good idea to get a set parameter.
| Use      = Other
| Purpose = The image is placed in the infobox at the top of the article discussing [[]], a subject of public interest. The significance of the logo is to help the reader identify the event, assure the readers that they have reached the right article containing critical commentary about the event, and illustrate the event's intended branding message in a way that words alone could not convey.

I agree with you Salavat, the "Use" parameter can be used with value "Event". Now we should revise the opening sentence of "Purpose", especially those words about the "top of the article", because many articles contain two logos but neither is at the top of the article, for example see this. Redirect bypass?

edit

Could you please bypass redirect for this template from the link to Scalable Vector Graphics to SVG since it's now widely known commonly by its initialism? I just invoked the template by uploading an SVG image. Thanks! Intrisit (talk) 17:01, 2 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

To editor Intrisit: please point out exactly where in this template "Scalable Vector Graphics" can be found. We see two instances of "svg", but we can find no instances of the expansion of that initialism. Are you thinking of a different, but similar template? The low resolution section of the non-free logo rationale template that appears when a Wikipedian uploads an SVG image, like I did within a week ago with the Ligue 1 2024.svg file with "This is an SVG vector image of a registered trademark..." line. Ah, that edit was needed in the meta template {{SVG-Res}}, and it has been   fixed per WP:NOTBROKEN. P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'er there 16:36, 4 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
